Join us for the most FUN outdoor event of the Summer!
The BIG SUMMER CAMP - Friday 12 July to Sunday 14 July
We have arranged to return to the lovely Britchcombe Farm Campsite to hold our annual BIG SUMMER CAMP!
We will be wonderfully situated on a working farm with plenty of sheep, cattle and chickens in an unspoilt area of lovely countryside. The famous White Horse of Uffington is on the hill just above the farm!
The White Horse Hill with its magnificent views and historic myths is within walking distance, and the area has many footpaths and byways by which to explore one of the most beautiful parts of Oxfordshire.
The spacious campsite has clean toilets, hot showers and space to throw a frisbee or play a game of rounders. Otherwise you can just relax and sun bathe if you prefer. They even have fire pits so we can enjoy a crackling camp fire at night while we watch the stars. Bring your guitar if you play and a blanket to picnic on.
Throughout the summer Britchcombe Farm even run their own Tea Rooms serving delicious homemade cream teas in a converted nags stable.
This is camping with a bit of comfort!
£25 for the whole weekend. This includes 2 nights of camping with hot showers and the owners will provide us with some firewood.
Use PayPal to make payment please. If you are unemployed and receiving social benefits please contact us to ask about paying a reduced fee.
Walks in the area:
Include the famous White Horse Hill with its ancient chalk hill carving where legend has it that St George slew the dragon. Also nearby with magnificent views is Uffington Castle (an Iron Age hillfort over 2000 years old) and the even older and very impressive Neolithic tomb of Wayland the Smith, an ancient Saxon god!
Not far away are the Lambourn Downs with expansive views across open, rolling country. This typical downland landscape is a delight.
There are many great walks in the area so bring your map and compass!
Food & drink:
Although there is a Tea Room at the farm you will need to bring food for your breakfasts, dinners and packed lunches. We can even do a Saturday night barbecue by the camp fire!
Also remember to carry plenty of water if you go out hiking during the day and snacks (dried fruit, chocolate, nuts etc) to keep yourself full of energy during your walk.
Bring a camping stove if you own one and some tea or coffee etc.
Please also feel free to bring your own drinks. If you have a cool box you should grab some ice at the supermarket to keep your beers or wine bottles chilled.
You will need a waterproof tent. If you do not own one they are very cheap to buy these days in places like Argos or even Tesco Superstores etc.
Please ensure that you are adequately equipment for hiking. Bring hiking shoes or boots and a good waterproof jacket if you want to explore on foot. You will also need a map and compass if you intend to form your own group to go for a walk.
Bring a camping stove if you own one. It is nice to brew up some tea or coffee.
The nearest railway stations are Swindon (12.3 miles away) or Didcot (15 miles away) and it would be wise to use the comments board to group together so you can meet and buy GroupSave4 tickets.
Alternatively if you are driving it would be great if you can offer a lift to other members. It is really not very far from London (about 1.5 hour drive) and I am sure your passengers will be happy to contribute towards travel expenses. You can advertise details of your car share on the comments board.

A note about the Outdoor Adventure Club:
The OAC is a 'not for profit' organisation under the supervision of the government appointed CIC Regulator. It is run entirely for the benefit for its members and organisers receive no financial gain for the time and skills they volunteer.
A contribution of £25 is requested for this camping weekend. Currently we need to raise money to pay for our next year of insurance and our accountancy fees. It all adds up and your contribution is greatly appreciated. However if you are unemployed or facing financial hardship please let us know and we can reduce your fee for this weekend away.
If you would like to volunteer your time and skills please contact us - we would love to hear from you!
