Start/Join A Team:

The Salt Lake City Urban I******d is held on the same date as the “real” I******d race each year - the first Saturday of March. In the Alaskan I******d, more than sixty dog sled teams race across the frozen tundra from Anchorage to Nome. In our urban version, teams of ‘dogs’ lead by a musher will pull their sleds (shopping carts) through some of Salt Lake City’s most scenic areas. These teams of barking humans must negotiate through the unrelenting and unforgiving dangers of SLC’s urban frontier.

As an incentive to run, dogs and mushers alike will have several ‘rest stops’ to replenish lost fluids and discuss tales of mayhem. The course is normally over four miles in length, so dogs and mushers alike need to be ready and able to run their tails off.

At the first bar we stop at, there will be raffle tickets to purchase for the chance to win some awesome prizes at each bar. So bring some cash with you. Last year we had some official Urban I******d beer mugs, gift cards and other fun stuff. There will trivia and the team that answers correctly will get advance knowledge of our next watering hole. (Meaning first in line for beverages)

WHERE: The start of the Salt Lake City Urban I******d will be at the corner of 400 S. and West Temple in the NW corner of the parking lot. Each of the watering holes will be announced on the wall of the official FB page. So you'll need to check your phone once you hear the siren to know where we're heading next!

WHEN: Sat, March 1st @ 2:00 pm

TEAMS: Assemble a team and create a theme, decorate your sled (shopping cart). Here is the link to the doc to create a team or to join one:

CARPOOL: Once your team has been assembled, you can figure out carpool arrangements and cart transport to downtown SLC.

MISC: There will be a lot of people attending this event, so it's highly recommended you bring some cash with you to make it a lot faster and easier to pay for drinks. Please obey traffic laws and use sidewalks and crosswalks. Don't cut across the trax, etc.

Okay what team will take me? I can run fast and drink lots. But I'm not much of a decorator. .

I was wondering the same thing. I don't have a team either if you want to start one?

Did you check the Google spreadsheet listed above? It has all the teams listed on it. I noticed there are a couple teams that need more people. I will try and put you in contact with them. Otherwise you can also go to the FB event and write on the wall and see if anyone writes back.

I just read the entire description of this event. I can come up with a team, I think. If I do then do I need to add them to my count or how does this work? How many people on a team? Should I read again? New to all these events in Utah.

Hey Alma, sorry I didn't see your post. The notifications haven't been coming through to my email. You should have a minimum of 4 people on your team but there really isn't a limit. However staying below 10 people makes it much more manageable to stay together (from past experiences). I have the spreadsheet listed on the description to add members but it isn't mandatory. This is just a good old fashioned, laid back bar crawl. And by laid back I mean crazy silliness and shennanigans ;)

Josh, thanks for the reply and the advice. Unfortunately, I am having to pull out of this event. I am going to California for work for two weeks. It sounds like so much fun!!

f you are having trouble finding a team to join, those that have started a team should add to the spreadsheet "spots available". I had many people on my team I didn't even know last year and we became good friends after this event. So it doesn't really matter who is on your team. Welcome all the strangers you can :)
