Monthly Worker Cooperative Meetup

There are a fair few worker cooperatives in Oxfordshire, so it would be good to meet and learn from each other. This will also be a great opportunity to meet people interested in setting up a worker cooperative and offer advice to encourage that to happen.
There will no doubt be other benefits to meeting up, so if you have any ideas for topics to discuss or activities we might want to run, just let us know.

    Morning all,

Got an email back from Kathy this morning. They are planning to organise something along with their AGM later in the year and she said they only have enough funding for 1 event so basically the overall impression was not one of enthusiasm for our venture... Shame! Any thoughts?

I guess leave it then? Otherwise would just be the same bunch of us meeting on a different day for no reason, right?

I think so.. I think we should focus on upping the numbers for the regular meetup. To that end I will create an event on Daily Info. What other things can we do?

I have found the guy who deals with bookings - he;ll confirm next week but looks like it should be fine for us to use our 'garden room' here at the Old Music Hall 7-9pm on 29th July for the next meet-up. And if not there are meeting rooms free - just not as pleasant.

I just went to find the guy that deals with bookings but he's just gone home...i'm next in on Friday so can ask him about the 'Garden Room' then. As for other spaces there is one largeish room which is free from 3.30pm onwards that day. I've provisionally booked it 3.30 til 9. I'll update on Fri.

    Cheers!

    Hi all,
Great to see everyone again last night, really enjoyed the conversation and Jamie's snoring :-)
I have called Kathy at Coops SE and left a message and followed up with an email of our proposal so hopefully will hear back later today. Will keep you posted.
Richard, have you managed to ask about OMH availability?
    Cheers,
    Aaron

Thanks Agile for hosting us! It was great to meet you all and spend some time discussing the pleasures and challenges of workers co-ops and how we can better support other co-ops and promote the model. Looking forward to the next one on June 24th, 7-9pm at OARC.

It was great to meet some other local people who work in cooperatives and to talk about some of the common issues that cooperatives face. We touched on many topics, including affordable work space, educating school children about cooperatives, networking between local cooperatives, getting involved in cooperatives fortnight, and flat verses tiered pay structures.

    Hi Finn and Co,
I'm afraid I'm in London today and tomorrow, so won't be able to make this evening. If you take minutes, or have any notes, I'd be keen to read and follow your discussions.
    Have fun! Petronella

Looking forward to meeting some of you tonight!
If there are any topics for discussion that people already have in mind, please do post ideas here.
I guess it will depend on who comes, but
    some initial ideas:

    - how to encourage and support new worker cooperatives.
    - how to facilitate more networking between existing worker cooperatives.
    - pay structures with worker cooperatives.

We'll get some drinks and nibbles in to keep us going.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
