'PHILOMENA' at the Phoenix Picturehouse, Walton Street

For those, like me, who have yet to see this film with Judi Dench and Steve Coogan. Received great reviews. Good entertainment after a day's work!!

From a comedic and heartfelt script part-written by co-star Steve Coogan, PHILOMENA sees an Oscar-worthy Judi Dench play the titular character seeking out the illegitimate son taken from her when he was three whilst she served in one of Ireland’s notorious convents.

In this she is aided by journalist Martin Sixsmith (Coogan), whose dogged tactics and genuine outrage eventually lead them to Washington DC and a series of superb plot twists.

Stephen Frears (THE QUEEN) draws remarkable performances from this odd couple, whose earthy chemistry, coupled with a sharp and very funny script, make PHILOMENA a true delight.

Meet in the bar from 6.00pm and showing starts 6.30pm. Maybe a discussion after in a local pub for those who fancy it.

Thanks everyone who came. I think a 'good' film with strong parts. Philomena on a mission for closure, and Sixsmith ultimate journalistic search for retribution. Well directed but perhaps a shade superficial at times. Great banter at the pub after.

Sorry I can't make this, as it looks a very interesting film - but sadly I'm busy tomorrow. Maybe another time . . .
