The socialites of spring: afternoon get-together in Jericho

Spring will presumably surface at some point this year, and when it does, we'll be ready to nurture budding friendships and artistic acquaintances with an afternoon get-together in Jericho.

Dennis at The Albion Beatnik has kindly made the venue available for the group from 3pm, and there will be tea, coffee, cake and wine, plus possibly one or two musical or poetic surprises including Jennifer McGowan, Tina Sederholm, Pete Joshua and Hannah Bruce.

If anybody would like to have lunch beforehand, I've booked Manos Greek delicatessen and Mediterranean cafe from 1pm.

Manos is at 105 Walton Street, Jericho

http://www.manosfoodbar.com/

The Albion Beatnik is Oxford finest bookstore-cum-jazz and spoken word venue, according to.....oh, everyone I know anyway.

Thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon, made very welcome.
    Thanks Neil

I thought it was really civilized - sitting round with our tea (or wine) and cake, chatting and listening to the poetry and music. Definitely more events like that.

An amazing afternoon in very good company. Thanks Neil.

Unfortunately I've got a nasty cold, so probably best not to go out. Apologies.

I take exception to your system of transliteration. A "v" would almost always be preferable to "ff" (outside of musical notatation, obviously). Sounds like I missed a fine afternoon. Curses

Lovely people, unsurpassed venue, Dennis and Lucie worked like infinitely cool Trojans to keep us topped up with tea and tipples, and we were treated to flamenco, folk, performance poetry and all manner of breathless tuneage - had to be the Albion Beatnik.

Well done Neil for organizing such a terrific afternoon, I loved the atmosphere of the AB, which was I thought, enhanced by the presence of the drunken knitwits! This is exactly the kind of event I joined the group for and I wasn't disappointed :)

    2 · April 14, 2013

    • Neil

Thanks Fiona, that's very kind. And a big thank you to all the performers and Dennis and Lucie at The Albion Beatnik who catered to all our needs in different ways, as well as the Oxford Drunken Knitwits, The Oxford Vegetarian and Vegan Eatup group, and of course, members of the one and only Oxford Arts Group.

Sorry I misunderstood the system - I thought I had said yes and was noted but it seems not. Not to worry. Another time.

    April 13, 2013

    • Neil

Come along by all means, Rosemary, but be prepared to 'rub shoulders' with the group, literally (see above).

Please note, you are still welcome to join us at Manos restaurant from 1pm, but we've had to close RSVPs to the Albion Beatnik due to space restrictions.

  • jane

Is it ok to arrive a little late at the Beatnik and what time does it end?

    April 9, 2013

    • Neil

Fine to arrive late. It's open ended really, but the first performers will be on from around 4:00 - 4:30, with one or two others arriving after 5.30.

      April 9, 2013

  • Neil

We now have Pete Joshua and Hannah Bruce strumming and picking for our pleasure at the Albion Beatnik, with our own Ailsa J offering up a little flamenco guitar. I think we'd better stop there before it all gets too breathless...

Unfortunately I can't now make this event - which frees up a space for someone else! I would alter my RSVP, but the facility doesn't allow that at the moment.

    April 8, 2013

    • Neil

Thanks Gina, Meetup really know how to roll with the punches. I'll see if I can over-ride the automatic inflatable Meetup doll pilot and disengage your RSVP x

      April 8, 2013

    • Neil

I think we'll keep the event closed to new RSVPs though. We're already over-subscribed as it stands.

I'd love to take part in another Albion wordfest but -- alas -- have returned to the (bitterly cold) paradise of the Canadian prairie. Plan to be back in Oxford in the fall. Keep me inkformed on what's happening in September.

Just to let you all know that we've invited Oxford Drunken Knitwits and Oxford Vegetarian and Vegan 'Eatup' group to join us for lunch and beatnik adventures, so it should be a particularly social afternoon. Maybe we'll even get the knitwits to run us up a pair of mittens or two...
