Beyond The Walls of Jericho: A guided tour from the Beatnik to Bathsheba & back

We're delighted to announce that David Gunnell, who proved such a knowledgeable and engaging guide on the third of our literary tours of Oxford this summer, has prepared an exclusive dramatic tour of Oxford's historic Jericho area, setting off from the Albion Beatnik and delving into some of the sights, sounds and stories associated with an area rich in social history.

Details of the event are still being finalised, but we can promise an experience rather different from that of a standard guided tour, featuring readings from David, a gifted orator, and one or two surprises along the way.

David has generously agreed for all proceeds from the event to be donated to Oxford's Archway foundation, a volunteer-led organisation, which provides a befriending service for those who find themselves isolated due to physical, psychological or social circumstances, and which Oxford Arts Group has supported in the past.

Places must of necessity be limited, so please don't delay in signing up for this unique event.

Ticket prices £6 (£4 concessions)

David's gift for dramatic reading, combined with a passion for his subject, and his imaginative approach to exploring this historic quarter of Oxford, came together on a memorable evening. Ably assisted by the versatile Joanne Lindsay and the passion and verve of 'The Horns of Plenty', the Jericho of Thomas Hardy, Gerard Manley Hopkins and Laurence Binyon was brought passionately and movingly to life.

Just to add to all the other comments - yes- what a wonderful evening this was! Sometimes poignant, sometimes spooky and then finally, utterly, utterly joyous! One of those serendipitous events that I am so very, very grateful I didn't miss!

Very much depends on David's availability, and I know he's pretty much fully booked until spring, but will see if I can persuade him to consider one or two similar ventures.

Absolutely brilliant. David and Neil excelled themselves. So much preparation and creativity went into this. The inside view on OUP quad, the spooky St Sepulchre and the Horn of Plenty rocking that amazing Oxford space, St Barnabas. The weather also behaved before it gets cold tonight

This sounds great! I was wondering how long the tour would run for, and also where it ends (I'm assuming back in Oxford?). Thanks!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
