Eva Kotátková: A Storyteller's Inadequacy
Modern Art Oxford presents the first UK solo exhibition of Eva Kotátková’s varied conceptual work featuring the most prolific performance based works to date. Kotátková creates works that are proposals for living in an awkward age, blueprints for difficulties that must be overcome in order to explore the limits of human relationships and behaviour.
Working in a series of interrelated and interchangeable pieces; drawings, photographs and sculpture are reconfigured within broad themes while employing an established vocabulary of contemporary art to re-evaluate ‘normal’. Kotátková recently exhibited at the 55th Venice Biennale as part of Massimiliano Gioni’s The Encyclopedic Palace.
Notice! Modern Art Oxford in Print[masked]
Charting the complete graphic design history of the gallery, this exhibition is a photographic trompe l'oeil of around 400 unique posters from the Modern Art Oxford archive. FromSpace Place in 1966 to Friedrich Kunath's Raymond Moody's Blues in 2013, it will provide visitors with opportunities to explore Modern Art Oxford’s programme since its inception.
The posters show developments in graphic identity from the 1960’s to the present day alongside revealing shifts in artistic agendas of the seven directors of Modern Art Oxford.
The exhibition includes posters from world renowned artists who have presented seminal exhibitions including: Richard Long (1971); Sol Le Witt (1973) Joseph Beuys (1974); Donald Judd (1995); Marina Abramovich (1995); Carl Andre (1997), Yoko Ono (1997), Tracey Emin (2002), Jim Lambie (2003) Mike Nelson (2004), Jannis Kounellis (2004), Daniel Buren (2006) Gary Hume (2008).
