Eva Kotátková: A Storyteller's Inadequacy

Modern Art Oxford presents the first UK solo exhibition of Eva Kotátková’s varied conceptual work featuring the most prolific performance based works to date. Kotátková creates works that are proposals for living in an awkward age, blueprints for difficulties that must be overcome in order to explore the limits of human relationships and behaviour.

Working in a series of interrelated and interchangeable pieces; drawings, photographs and sculpture are reconfigured within broad themes while employing an established vocabulary of contemporary art to re-evaluate ‘normal’. Kotátková recently exhibited at the 55th Venice Biennale as part of Massimiliano Gioni’s The Encyclopedic Palace.

Notice! Modern Art Oxford in Print[masked]

Charting the complete graphic design history of the gallery, this exhibition is a photographic trompe l'oeil of around 400 unique posters from the Modern Art Oxford archive.  FromSpace Place in 1966 to Friedrich Kunath's Raymond Moody's Blues in 2013, it will provide visitors with opportunities to explore Modern Art Oxford’s programme since its inception.

The posters show developments in graphic identity from the 1960’s to the present day alongside revealing shifts in artistic agendas of the seven directors of Modern Art Oxford.

The exhibition includes posters from world renowned artists who have presented seminal exhibitions including: Richard Long (1971); Sol Le Witt (1973) Joseph Beuys (1974); Donald Judd (1995); Marina Abramovich (1995); Carl Andre (1997), Yoko Ono (1997), Tracey Emin (2002), Jim Lambie (2003) Mike Nelson (2004), Jannis Kounellis (2004), Daniel Buren (2006) Gary Hume (2008). Howard Hodgkin (2010)

Meet in the Museum cafe from 6.15.

Puzzling but watchable performance art. Struck me it was like an adventure playground for severely autistic children. My favourite exhibition was the display of all the Modern Art Oxford publicity posters over the years. Fun wandering round with Arts Group people and catching up in the bar later. Some really interesting conversations.

Sorry I missed you all. I was at a seminar for work which didn't finish til 7, when it was supposed to finish at 6.30 and then I bloomin' well realised that not only had I forgotten to print off the ticket but I also had no battery left to post a message. Gutted. I was hoping to boast of my involvement in some of the exhibitions in the downstairs exhibition of posters.

If anybody from the November bright club evening is coming tonight AND has the arts group signs, both you and they would be very welcome!

I have registered for the event, how does it work ? No facilities to print of a ticket, also can't do an app type thing or am I worrying needlessly ?

Hello - not sure if I will be back in Oxford in time so my yes is a tentative one. Hope that's allowed!

Yup, don't tell Meetup or they'll be slinging you off the list again!

I was the press and marketing officer at MOMA (when it was MOMA) from '97-'01 so I'm hoping I can point to one or two of 'my' posters...Ed Ruscha and 'Notorious' (the amazing exhibition of works inspired by Hitchcock) were my two favourite exhibitions during my time. Wonder if the posters made the cut!

Yeah, I let myself in for that one....I was the mere marketing bod and know NOTHING about art!!!!

      October 31, 2013

    • Neil

Going by recent exchanges, I gather the marketing's the more important of the two.

Do we need to register as per the above link, as well as say we're going on this Meetup page?!

    October 31, 2013

    • Katrina R.

Yes it's easy enough it's just vaguely annoying to have yet another layer of internet admin to have to fill in, another advertiser has our email addresses to spam and sell on as potential markets bla bla. But no worries ;-)

Thanks sweetie - Jane had been dropping hints about why enrollments were stalling.

      October 30, 2013

They took my request no questions asked - don't mess with the OAGRES.

    October 30, 2013

You usually have to be a 'Friend' of MAO to get invited to an evening preview event...has this changed? In which case great! On the other hand I'm giving up my Friend status if they're letting riff raff like what we is in.
