The Arthouse Disco - Episode II: 'Soul and funk - a seventies bass odyssey'

For the next episode in Jim B Donovan's series of Arthouse Discos, we'll be featuring soulful and funky grooves from the early 70s and thereabouts from the likes of Sly and The Family Stone, Isaac Hayes, Stevie Wonder, Ike and Tina Turner, Al Green, Parliament, Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, The O' Jays and the godfather of funk, Mr James Brown.

Having taken on board your feedback after Episode 1, they'll be a greater variety of food on offer (soul or otherwise) and if you'd like to suggest tunes, the list will be forwarded to Mr James B (Donovan) - the hardest working DJ in, well....Reading. The visuals will also be updated/backdated with new software to ensure a smoother flow.

Bar as usual, parking at the venue, special requests - just let us know and we'll do our best to accommodate. And while it's tempting to end by counting, 'one two three four...Get Up, Get on UP!' I'll leave you with the extraordinarily beautiful sound of Mr Al Green:

The best looking and sounding disco yet. Jim steered a steady course between rarer soul and funk offerings and the more commercial grooves, and seemed to please most of the people, most of the time! Thanks to Liz and Leilah who were superb in their dual role as door persons and bar tenders; enormous gratitude to the bevy of lovely nurses who kindly came to enquire about my physical health (and the stress counsellor, who also offered her expertise!) And special thanks to Jim's mate 'Maz', who was invaluable in procuring certain kitchen items, without which the whole experience would have been rather messier! Onto the next one in June!
