Pledge Night at the KPBS TV Studio

  • Mar 3, 2014 · 6:15 PM

Join us for Pledge Night at the KPBS TV Studio. We have been given the opportunity to represent PPS and answering the phones live on the air Monday, March 3rd, 6:15 – 11:00 pm. The instructions sent by KPBS are below.  Please read them carefully before submitting your RSVP.

You may bring your cameras and take photographs when not answering phones and / or when on breaks.

As this is limited to only 16 members you must show up if you RSVP YES.

Here are:  The Directions and Instructions for Parking and Check-In

KPBS-TV Pledge: Group Volunteering

Volunteering your group on the phone banks of a KPBS-TV Pledge fundraising broadcast is a great way to be involved with our community minded public broadcasting station.  You’ll also get a unique behind the scenes experience of a live television production.  Volunteering as a group is a good means of exposure for your organization and an opportunity for team building.

Summary: Volunteers answer donor phone calls on the set of a live KPBS-TV pledge fundraising broadcast and enter donor data into a computer system.  Volunteers occasionally appear on camera in the background as the on air hosts request pledges of financial support from our viewers.

Volunteer Requirements:

- Basic typing / computer skills to enter pledge information into computer system.

- Minimum age 16 years old.

- As we use computer screens and telephone headsets, this activity isn’t recommended for those with vision or hearing issues.

Other:

Shift includes a light meal and training. Free parking permits and driving directions are provided.    Groups have the option of wearing their organization’s logo attire.  Please know that doesn’t guarantee the camera shots will actually be close enough for the logos to be clearly visible on screen. On air hosts will announce the name of the group that is volunteering three times during the course of the broadcast. 16 volunteers needed to reserve a shift.  In addition, we recommend 2-3 backups in case of cancellations.

·  KPBS is located on the campus of San Diego State University.

Typical TV Pledge Shift:

1st:  Volunteers arrive, first picking up a free parking permit from the open door on the side of our building before parking (instructions, directions provided).

2nd:  Light meal, snacks provided.

3rd:  A volunteer group leader gives rundown & brief hands on training in the TV studio.

4th:  KPBS producers, directors, camera operators and production staff of all types ready the set.

5th: Live Broadcast & Phones: Cutting back and forth between pledge programming, on air talent encourages viewers to pledge donations to KPBS while volunteers take incoming phone calls on set in the background.

Please Note: By submitting a YES RSVP and participating in any PPS event, you agree that PPS, Organizers, and Event Hosts are NOT responsible for your safety or for any injury or damage to your person or your property, or that of your guest(s).You agree that you have read the instructions of the announcement and that you and your guest(s) are assuming all risks of participating in the event.
