WATCHING DRAGON BOAT RACING ON THE ISLANDS!
This event is great entertainment that comes one weekend in the year, it takes place on center islands and is free to watch for all attendees, if we are lucky enough we could all get a seat on the band stand for a great view but alternatively there are so many great view points to watch this event, so its great fro us as a group to paddle across together and get to sit down and enjoy some race action, and it may inspire us for the paddle back across the lake. Here below are some facts about the great day out and its history.
From the humble beginning of only 27 teams participating in the first festival back in 1989, the Festival has evolved to a much bigger operation over the past two decades.
Organized by the Toronto Chinese Business Association and Toronto International Dragon Boat Race Festival, the Festival in 2013 will once again expect 180 to 200 teams with over 5,000 athletes.
In 2013, as the Festival celebrates its 25th year, it promises to continue to be one of the most exciting summer events in Toronto. Once again this year, the Festival will welcome teams from all provinces across Canada, from the U.S., the Caribbean Islands, Europe and Asia.
The races start as early as 9 am and run the whole day so we would catch some of the races perfectly at the time we arrive around 12.45.We may take a shorter trip to get to the islands then after parking we should have just over an hour to catch quite a few races and find a nice spot to sit together and have some food and enjoy the show. This will give us all an option to stay for more races or if we have seen enough we could take a longer route back on our canoe and take in more of the islands, the tours is yours so we can decide on the day.
