2013 TSRA ROLL AND PADDLING PRACTICE SESSIONS

2013 TSRA ROLL AND PADDLING PRACTICE SESSIONS – TSU POOL!!

YOU WILL NEED A NEOPRENE SKIRT FOR YOUR WW KAYAK OR SEA KAYAK IN THESE SESSIONS.

What: TSRA will again utilize the pool at Tennessee State University for winter pool practice. These pool sessions will be open to all TSRA members. We will be providing informal instruction in various paddling related skills on different nights to those interested: Rolling your boat, bracing, strokes, safety and rescues, conditioning, and GAMES!

If you aren’t interested in instruction, then come and practice your own roll! FOR MORE INFORMATION CONTACT JACK LYLE ([masked] OR[masked]).

Where: The Tennessee State University Aquatic Center, located next to the main gymnasium of the Howard C. Gentry Athletic Complex. Turn into this facility off of Dr. Walter S. Davis Boulevard. Athletic Complex area. You are allowed to drop your boat off at the door before parking, if you wish.

Thought the movie was very helpful and the at home practice. Glad I'll go into the pool not so blind.

I primarily interested in the rolling. Is this available at each session or is each session for one skill?

So for the folks that have never been to this location...Does anyone have an address for the trusty GPS?

    February 13, 2013

    • Jason C

Awesome thank you. Deb I hate to ask all these questions but I have one more. I went to the link a couple days ago and paid the $30 pool fee but did not see an option to add the ACA event $5 fee to that. So I guess my question is If I am preregistered but have not paid my ACA event fee $5 which line do I get in...again sorry for the questions.

You are correct Jason. So you will need to pay it at the desk the first night. Not sure why it isn't there.

I need some volunteers, If you can volunteer to help at the front desk(s) on one or more nights please contact me.

    February 1, 2013

    • Tom

DEB, do you still need volunteers for the desk?

      1 · February 13, 2013

    • "Water Lily" D.

Yes Tom. I would love some more help at the front desks. I am hoping by the second session everyone will be pre-registered and we will only need a couple to run only one front desk, but until then...I greatly appreciate the help. Thanks.

Deb I would like to attend but I am curious how it would work for my 10 year old son. He has all his gear but would I need to register and pay separately for him as well being that he is 10 years old? I will I have no problem with that I just need to know how to go about doing it.

    • "Water Lily" D.

with that said, you only have to pay for one family TSRA membership if you haven't already done so. This you can do on the TSRA website at www.paddletsra.org

      February 6, 2013

    • Jason C

Thanks for the heads up! See you on the water.

  • "Water Lily" D.

The more we have pre-register online at the TSRA website, the easier and faster you will get through the check in lines. If you can get pre-registered you will receive a bracelet upon your first night check-in which will get you through the line quickly each night there after. You will need to attach this bracelet to your PFD or helmet so you will have it every night you come. DO NOT LOSE YOUR ENTRANCE BRACELET!

    So it's not pay-as-you-go this year, Deb? it's a flat $30?

    February 1, 2013

    • "Water Lily" D.

Correct Ron, it's a flat $30 no matter how many classes you attend. There will be discussions, demonstrations, practice areas to combat proof your roll and bracing, instructors galore, and of course an instruction area.

Hey all, your skirt needs to be a form fitting skirt, made to keep the water out of your boat when you roll. It should not, in most cases have zippers, suspenders, or easily become detached from your boat or from you.

Your boat should be a rollable boat: whitewater kayak, sea kayak, whitewater canoe....(if you paddle a ww canoe, you already know you won't need a skirt)

    February 1, 2013

    • "Water Lily" D.

If all you have is a skirt that has zippers and suspenders, but it is a tight fit and does keep the water out, and does not fall off during a roll, by all means come on out and give it a try.
