The Eighth Annual Spring Picnic! - Long Hunter State Park

Mark your calendars for our Eighth Annual Spring Picnic to meet new members and connect with old friends!

Join Nashville Hiking MeetupPaddle Adventures Unlimited and Franklin 40+ Funseekers as we grill some grub and play friendly games of cornhole, horseshoes, Frisbee, or whatever we have equipment for. There is a playground and lots of trails to hike or bike there as well. Paddlers bring your boats! The water level should be high enough to put in.

Kids, bikes, strollers welcomed! No dogs allowed in this area of the park.

Bring your own meat or veggies to grill along with these items to share based on your last name:

A - I: Side dish (chips, dips, veggies, fruit, potato salad) AND serving spoons
J - R: Bottled or canned drinks and ice plus coolers if you have one
S - Z: Desserts

We'll provide the plates, napkins, cups, and forks. Grills are provided; let us know if you can bring some charcoal.

Also, please bring camp chairs and any sports equipment you have to share (soccer ball, Frisbee, football, corn hole, your kayak or canoe, etc.). Paddlers: yes, you can put in right here beside the picnic shelter! (You must bring and wear your PFD. Rangers do patrol this area.)

Our trip leaders will be wearing sombreros so you can pick them out. If you're new, please introduce yourself to our trip leaders!

Which of these trip leaders above still lives in Nashville?

Carpool with a friend to save space at the park. We don't have an official carpool set up so arrange this with your hiking buddies on your own or post a note in your RSVP.

For those who wish to do some hiking after the picnic, Long Hunter Naturalist Jason Allen will lead a hike from the Couchville Lake picnic shelter at about 3:00 p.m.

Great time with great people! Unfortunately we found out the park rangers prohibit stand up paddle boards at this time. They only allow boats that can be paddled and the boats must have a seat and a gunnel, thus eliminating SUPs. Apparently they've had some issues with what people want to stand on and paddle as well as behavior and breaking the no-swimming rule by intentionally falling in, etc.

Unfortunately I had no idea they barred SUPs. Maybe by next picnic time that will have changed!

Hey Kelly, definitely a surprise to all of us. I found it interesting that the ranger was very apologetic and felt the need to explain at length. We had great time just being there with such good peeps! Thx!

Great meetup y'all! It's unfortunate TSP has prohibited SUPs for Couchville, but at least now we know and can spread the word in the paddling community. Thx for a great event and our girls had a great time!
