Paddle the Wolf River near historic LaGrange TN to Moscow TN. This water trail of the Wolf River encompasses the mystic Ghost Section, Spirit Lake, and an abundance of wildlife and beautiful trees.
Just about anytime is the best time to be on the Ghost River.
The Ghost River section of the Wolf is an unchannelized river section that meanders through bottomland hardwood forests, cypress-tupelo swamps, and open marshes. Some of the most impressive trees that occur here are large oaks that include cherrybark, water, willow, and swamp chestnut. The low ridges above the river bottoms support tulip poplar, beech, and white oak with northern red oak infrequently occurring.
This trip will take over 6 hours to complete the 8.5 miles section from Yager Rd bridge in LaGrange to the Bateman St bridge near Moscow.
Trip details; Saturday plan to eat breakfast on your own, be loaded, and on the road by 7am to arrive at put-in by 8 am. I would like to load the gear on Friday night if possible. Pack a lunch for a stop at river marker #3. We must pack our gear on our friends' trucks so we can only bring a few shuttle trucks due to the limited parking. You may want to chip in for part of the gas on this 40 mile trip. We will drop off the kayaks and gear at LaGrange then take all the trucks and drivers to the take-out to drop off the trucks. We should be in the water no later than 9 am. We need to stay in a single line for paddle and not too close. Speak quietly for respect of others. Take lots of pictures. Bring a whistle in case you get lost from the pack. Enjoy what nature has to offer.
The Wolf River Conservancy is dedicated to the protection and enhancement of the Wolf River corridor and watershed as a sustainable natural resource. Relying on a unique network of community leaders and a base of knowledge created through a 27-year history, WRC work to protect wilderness and to connect people to the outdoors.
