Paddle Tully River to Long Pond

The Tully River in Royalston, MA is a scenic river that heads north out of Tully Lake into Long Pond.  Round trip from the canoe launch up the river with a loop around the pond is a little less than 4 miles.  We'll attempt to head up the river that continues north out of the pond, but that may not be possible due to many beaver dams in that area.  Once we return to the canoe launch, those with time can continue on into Tully Lake and explore some of the shoreline, islands and coves.  If you plan to stay to go into the lake, bring a lunch and be prepared for a possible swim.

The launch is on Doane Hill Road in Royalston, MA, diagonally across the street from Tully Lake Campground, near where the bridge goes over the river.  Please arrive in time to LAUNCH at 9:00 AM.  Expect to spend 2+ hours for the trip up the river, more if we can get past/portage over beaver dams.

After paddling, there are other things to do in the area - hike to waterfalls, play disc golf, etc.  For more info about the recreational activities the area has to offer:

***PLEASE NOTE*** The organizers in this group are NOT trained leaders or instructors.  The organizers only set the time and place, each person participating in any group trip is responsible for their own safety.  Each participant is responsible for evaluating all relevant conditions for the trip and determining if their skills and equipment are appropriate for those conditions.

Required: PFD (worn), whistle, headlamp/flashlight (evening paddles). Optional/recommended: pump/bailer, insect repellent, sunscreen, water, snack, change of clothes in drybag, sunglasses, hat/visor.

I have been kayaking for many years, both in fresh water and salt water. I am new to this area, (Hubbardston) therefore I would love to be able to follow someone to the launch sites if possible. Please send me a note if you live in this area. Thank you, Jeannine

I live in leominster so will be passing through Gardiner on way to Royalston. We could meet somewhere just off of route 2 if you like. Will need to confirm weather is ok first of course.

Hi again, the Chevy dealer just informed me that my car will be ready today. Therefore I will be able to go on the kayak trip on Sunday. Sorry for the confusion. Jeannine

Good morning, I would love to attend the group on Sunday, but my car won't be ready. You see my kayak fits in my SUV, therefore I can bring it anywhere. Maybe the next kayaking trip in this area I'll be able to join. Hope you get the message in time. Jeannine
