I did get a good number of responses for a gear sale. Most of those who replied needed a date before they could commit. So........
Saturday October 16, 2010. Before we post ads on Craigs list I will need enough of a commitment from members to make it worth our while. We will do this like a yard sale for kakaying, camping and packbacking gear. Please no other items. The idea is to have people who want to sell items to be here by 8 with the sale starting around 8:30 OR 9.
The location will be in Holden, MA.
Any one who has gear that they would like to sell please respond with an idea of what you will bring. We will send out a mailing before the date giving members an idea of what will be for sale. We will post an ad on Craigs list and try to notify other groups who might be interested.
I had people say they had kayaks, paddles, and camping gear they wanted to sell.
IF THERE IS NOT ENOUGH RESPONSE WE WILL NOT HOLD THE SALE.
Meet other local kayakers and those interested in paddling (kayaks, canoes, SUPs). Beginners welcome, focus is on easier trips - there are many beautiful ponds, lakes and slow rivers in central mass to explore!
***PLEASE NOTE*** The organizers in this group are NOT trained leaders or instructors. The organizers only set the time and place, each person participating in any group trip is responsible for their own safety. Each participant is responsible for evaluating all relevant conditions for the trip and determining if their skills and equipment are appropriate for those conditions.
We do ask that everyone wear a PFD at all times on the water, regardless of the time of year. Also in accordance with local and national boating regulations, whistles are required on all trips and lights (a headlamp or flashlight is sufficient) are required on late afternoon/evening paddles. We have on occasion been checked by environmental police at the launch for these items, better to be prepared. A pump made specifically for kayaking or an alternate bailing device is recommended.
It is highly recommended that each person participating in an event bring a spare set of clothes in a waterproof bag, as well as water, snack, sunscreen and insect repellent. A hat or visor and sunglasses are advisable for early evening paddles when the sun is low in the sky.
For most trips, on-site rentals are not available. If you need a rental, you can get one at EMS, REI, Great Canadian Canoe or New England Backpacker. They will provide what you need to put the kayak on your car, you do not need a roof rack.
Trip cancellations will be e-mailed and posting removed at least two hours before trip start time.
