Trip Planning Meeting - Spring/Summer Schedule

You are invited to help plan the trips for our spring/summer season. We will be meeting at the Greenwood Professional Center where there will be plenty of parking and seating for everyone. All trip ideas are welcome! If you would like to propose a trip, be prepared with information about the put-in and take-out. If you cannot make it to the meeting, you can email your ideas to me (Mary, organizer) and I will present them to the group. New members are welcome, as this is a great way to meet and ask questions of our seasoned paddlers. See you there!

A special "thank you" to Maria and Jason Stewart for arranging our meeting space!

Thanks to many for their pre-planning and behind the scenes work to git 'r done!!!! Looking forward, as always, to hours of paddling fun with this great group! Had a great time and, no, I did not eat the squid or any other unfamiliar things (I don't think!)...LOL

Meeting went great, really looking forward to this spring/summer! Food at hibachi grill was awesome afterwards. I highly recommend the octopus in spicy sauce......not to forget the frog legs :)

Thank you, Mary, for your hours of hard work taking the schedule developed by the group yesterday and getting it up on the Meetup site so quickly. And adding the little extras that make each trip so much more enjoyable for everyone, such as GPS coordinates to get us there. Those little things make a big difference. Thank you!

Ok, I got it! Why not make a trip to Mellow Mushroom Pizza!? I know you like that place Mary Ellen :)

    March 1, 2013

    • Maria C. S.

But Mellow Mushroom sounds good. So does Japanese. Yum, either way!

Joe, you are right - I do like Mellow Mushroom! However, I will not be eating because I'll be typing up double the number of trips :)

    How about...
    http://www.beijingtokyoky.com/menu.asp
It is in the Kmart Plaza.
Only downside is no beer and wine license.

Mike, Jason and I went to Beijing Tokyo for lunch the other day. It is not set up for a group as large as ours may be. And, unfortunately, the food was not good. I had high hopes considering how close it is to the office. And the prices are good.

To clarify, the meeting will take place at the Greenwood Professional Center, 351 Pascoe Boulevard, Bowling Green. It is off of Highway 231/Scottsville Road, just West of I-65. Turn onto Pascoe Boulevard beside the Greenwood Ford dealership. The Greenwood Professional Center will be on your right. Look for the Greenwood Professional Center sign. It's a brick professional building with a large parking lot. Then AFTER the planning meeting we'll go eat. Joe and Jason have voted in a "no Mexican" policy for the evening. Some of the non-Mexican choices nearby are listed below. Or, we could hit the China One Buffet over BESIDE Puerto Vallarta on the bypass. Their selection was great, and they'd have room for us.

    - Longhorn Steak House
    - Logan's Roadhouse
    - Catfish House
    - Anna's Greek Restaurant
    - Red Lobster
    - Toot's
    - Smokey Bones
    - Beijing
    - Rafferty's
    - Buffalo Wild Wings
    - Montana Grille
    - Jumbo China Buffet
    - Olive Garden
    - Outback
    - Cracker Barrel
    - Ihop

    March 1, 2013

    • John B.

Toot's and BWW are way too loud to enjoy dinner and conversation. I haven't been in Smokey Bones but suspect it is also loud.

      March 1, 2013

    • Maria C. S.

I think I used the wrong name of the chinese restaurant here. I meant the buffet that we've been to several times that is over by Guadalajara. Sorry.

      March 1, 2013

  • Elizabeth D.

Thank you, I did read it again, I thought if they were changing the place, just to make sure people know about it. Thank you for you input.

    March 1, 2013

  • Maria C. S.

From speaking to some on this last paddle, I believe the consensus is that we all go eat after the planning meeting. Joe votes "no" to Mexican. :-)

    February 24, 2013

    • Jason S.

I second Joe's no Mexican motion!

      March 1, 2013

  • Joe M.

    Bring food???

      LMAO @ Matt!

      LOL

      March 1, 2013

  • Joe M.

Come on people, why all the Mexican food!

    February 28, 2013

    • Elizabeth D.

All I care about, is where we are meeting, and to make sure everyone know the direction to get there. If people want to eat Mexican food or not, that is there choice. Where are we meeting to discuss the event?

      February 28, 2013

    • Chris O.

Joe, Idk about the BG area Mexican restaurants, but the ones up here also have non-Mexican food as well...

      March 1, 2013

  • tom l.

brown bag it, order in pizza, pbj, cater with Subway, I have no real preference. Just need to meet people. Would like some moving water to paddle for a novice--quick learner instead of dead water on Barren, etc.

    February 28, 2013

  • Chris O.

Natalie-they are WELL worth the trip- I live in SE IN & love to paddle w/these guys! Thx Maryellen & John for being sure to set up my favorite trips-I'm marking 4/27 down right now John!

    February 26, 2013

  • Natalie

Hmmm....trying to decide to make the 4 hour drive or not. Sounds like fun and can't wait to meet a new group of paddlers and you guys look like fun, but it's a 4 hour drive for me. Boooo....

    February 26, 2013

  • Bob b.

I look forward to getting back to paddling with all of you!
Will check with Chris Grinstead if we can do another camp out paddle at the boy scout camp this spring

    February 25, 2013

    • Maryellen S.

Bob, we have it reserved for 3/8-10; should be posted tonight! ;-)

      February 25, 2013

  • Joe M.

That's all Mexican Mary Ellen! I vote for Toots, mr b's, or Buffalo Wild Wings.

    February 24, 2013

    • John B.

There were more non-Mexican than Mexican restaurants listed. Toot's and Buffalo Wildwings are too noisy to hear yourself think, let alone carry on a conversation with anyone.

      February 24, 2013

    • Joe M.

Hmm.....well being this is going to be on a Saturday evening, most places will be really busy anyway.

      February 25, 2013

  • Chris O.

hey you guys, I can't be there Sat (sorry!) but I'd like to be sure an overnight or 3 gets included....and a Little South Fork Paddle would be great as well. Thanks!

    February 25, 2013

    • Maryellen S.

You are so in luck...we have several already in mind and we will formalize schedule after Saturday's meeting...looking forward to paddling/camping together again! :)

      2 · February 25, 2013

    • John B.

We discussed a few overnight trips. One was on the Rockcastle River. Little South Fork is tentatively scheduled for April 27. We had a pre-meeting to sort these trips out so that the actual planning meeting wouldn't be so hectic.

      February 25, 2013

  • Mike

What is close to our planning site?

    February 24, 2013

    • Maria C. S.

We are right off of Highway 231/Scottsville Road near interstate 65. So some that are super close are Chuy's, Olive Garden, Outback, Ihop, Ruby Tuesday's, Logan's Roadhouse, Riviera Maya, Kyoto Diner, Tai Palace, Longhorn Steakhouse, Ryan's, Cracker Barrel, Anna's Greek Restaurant, Red Lobster, Toot's, Lone Star Steakhouse, Guadalajara, Smokey Bones, Beijing, Rafferty's, Buffalo Wild Wings, Montana Grille, and Jumbo China Buffet.

  • tom l.

Is there a good Chinese buffet in town?

    February 24, 2013

  • Joe M.

I think bringing food would be cool or go out afterwards.....but if we go out, no MEXICAN!!!

    February 18, 2013

  • Maria C. S.

Joe, we are having it in my conference room and there are no restrictions on food or drink, I can tell you that much. What's been done in the past? I know we were at Mariah's last time, but has it been at a non-restaurant at times before that? Is so, were refreshments served? If so I have all the plates, flatware, plastic cups and paper towels that we might need. So let's go for it if that's the norm.
