Green River - HWY 185 to Youngs Ferry

This scenic section of Green River has a large  natural rock arch that you can paddle under (but it is always underwater so don't get your hopes up). We'll begin this 8 mile paddle by going up-stream to view the waterfall at the lock.  When water levels are up, it is possible to paddle up Indian Creek (just upstream from Young's Ferry). This paddle should take 4-5 hours.

This is a class I paddle, suitable for beginners and experienced paddlers. The river access point is the Honaker Ferry boat ramp behind the store at the bridge. The store will be a right turn (on HWY 1749) before you cross the bridge over Green River. The ramp is located just off Hwy 1749, behind the store. The local area is called Glenmore. Directions From Bowling Green: Hwy 185 north - 11.8 miles Turn right on Hwy 1749, then bear left to the boat ramp.

Great paddle ! Actually paddled up Indian Creek for a long way and it was well worth the effort. Padddled beneath huge stone outcroppings amid the most Gar I have ever seen in one place. Very primal and scenic. Saw Momma and babby beaver, snakes, ducks, and a wandering bird dog. Alot of mud at the put-in and take out made the trip seem even more of an adventure. All of you folks that back out due to the forecast are really missing the boat(pun intended ). Chuck gets the "gentleman of the year " award for shuttling folks back prior to the paddle. Overall a great day in the outdoors.

Really fun day. The weather turned out to be good. Great scenery! The beavers were very cool. The wandering spaniel that kept showing up and swimming across the river was pretty funny. Good day.

Well my Jeep ended up in the dealers and they say they won't look at it until Monday. I'm doing wash and dishes and sweeping with a borrowed car instead of kayaking with friends. :(

Sorry I missed this paddle. Guess I didn't follow map well enough. Ended up in middle of Edmonton county, then back in eastern BG.

Weather went from 50% scattered storms to 60% thunderstorms. Not looking good or safe for being on the water. Maybe we should change v this to lunch and drinks. At least we would be inside! :-)

    May 17, 2013

  • Ann

Here we go again 60% chance of rain. I will wait until the am until I cancel since everyone on the waiting list can go now.

I hate to cause any confusion here but when I clicked on directions on the map it said to go to Exit 28, merge onto k446w, etc. I am coming up 231. Is it better to take Exit 26?

    April 28, 2013

    • John B.

I think so. Exit 28 is taking you the long way but will get you there.

      April 28, 2013

    • Ann

Thanks John, think I will do the Exit 26 instead

      April 28, 2013

Likely will not be there due to schedule conflicts. Rather be kayaking though.

I'm not sure whether the event is being cancelled. I have reserved a kayak, for pickup the afternoon. Could somebody call me @[masked] please... I'll not pick it up cancelled - or everybody wimps out.

    April 26, 2013

    • tom l.

Best not to be on the water if thunderstorms are in the vicinity. Lightning loves conduct through water.

      April 26, 2013

    • Beth S.

I have been thinking about it and I am wimping out - I'm sure it will warm up sometime:). Sorry all!!

I'm out, due to the weather report.

Colder than Drakes Creek 2 wks ago? My swim wasn't so cold, and I was plenty warm afterwards. Will bring my wet suit?

Tom, the description was posted months ago. It is hard to predict the weather so I typically err on the side of caution. Are you asking me if you need a wet suit?

      April 23, 2013

    • J P Morgan S.

Tom, I just did the Caney Fork River and it can't be as cold as the Caney Fork, just have an Emergency WATER Proof Bag, with a change of warm clothes just in case you spill. We must of had around 50 people last weekend and nobody wore a Wet Suit or a Dry Suit.

      April 23, 2013

  • Beth S.

Have no cold weather clothes - or kayak for that matter. But would love to do the trip.

Yes, they do! Call Gander to reserve one and to make arrangements. I hope the forecast changes for Saturday. Right now, it says 66 and rain.
