  • Hey Guys lets celebrate our Independence and rugged individualism by paddling on the fourth ! We will put in at the college street acces point and take out at Boat Landing Road. It's about seven miles and with recent rain we should have a good flow. We will paddle around Beach Bend and into our favorite local blue holes. Of course this is a theme paddle, wear something red, white or blue or any combination of the three ! We will have a brief shuttle and should have everyone home in time for fireworks. The time to meet us will be 10:00 am. This means we will start the shuttle at 10:10. Try to be on time !

Stinks you cancelled. I never saw much more than light rain. Maybe it's just that I really wanted to go. Maybe next time

Thanks for putting safety first. I've wanted to do this stretch of river and hope we can try again soon. Happy 4th!

Thanks for trying Matt. Would still love to do this section another day. Hope to meet everyone next time. Have a good 4th. Stay dry.

Good call, Matt! Hoping to get in some paddling this weekend

Just saw where there is a 90% chance of rain Thursday. Do you ever cancel, is it up to each of us individually or is it full steam ahead weather be darned?!

    July 2, 2013

    • Maryellen S.

We have done this paddle when it rained the entire time, and it was fine. The only concern would be if there are t-storms involved. Only you know your ability to deal with inclement weather. Always bring rain gear. :) Chuck Chandler would love it!

IF IT DOESN'T CLEAR UP I MAY PADDLE :)

I went down to the bypass and am definitely not going to put in from there. I see you are talking about some other way but don't see a put in click thing. How far off to just put in at pete wimb... and meet you? I know where that is and am sure I can turn trailer around.

It's not Weldon Peete park. The put in is below the pedestrian bridge. You missed the left hand turn that takes you to the put in.

      July 3, 2013

    • Scott G.

Turn onto old Louisville road off bypass. Take immediate left after crossing bridge on the little spur road. There's a bar or two on this road. Go straight down it and back to the river

  • Mary Lee K.

So I found the put in. Are they all like that? I can't carry a kayak, is this usual?

    July 3, 2013

    • Maryellen S.

All put-ins/take-outs are all different...some easy, some more challenging, but I look at it as all part of the process of getting out on the water to enjoy the great outdoors...always someone to help carry the kayak...that's why we paddle with others :)

      OK Hope I'm not needy.

Please do not forget your PDF in the morning ! I will not cancel unless there is thunder or it just coming down in buckets. If you have rain gear you may want to bring it. Lets keep our fingers crossed for a window of good weather !

Most likely going to attend this with a buddy. He just recently bought a canoe but I would like to try kayaking. Can you still loan one at gander? Sounds like fun for a first timer such as myself.

Do I need to buy a paddle or does a rental come with one? Can I use one of your rentals?

      July 2, 2013

    • matt w.

Scott, it comes with a paddle and PDF. If you have your own PDF bring it.

I found the map, I'll try going down where Manhattan Towers was and see if I can find it. The roads have changed since I lived here millions of years ago.

    • Maryellen S.

Mary, just click on the map above to get directions from your address. It is really very easy to find. There is a large grassy area with plenty of room to turn around your trailer; it's big enough to turn even a tractor trailer rig around. We have several members with large trailers. It's just a short road down to the water. There will be plenty of folks that will help get your boat down there. :)

Thanks, water not as much a problem as getting to it.

Looking forward to a good paddle. Let it rain, who cares?

    July 3, 2013

  • Scott G.

Do you all put in on the old Louisville road side I assume? I see canoes over there sometimes.

    July 2, 2013

    • matt w.

Click on the highlighted put in at the top of the page !

      July 2, 2013

    • Maryellen S.

Yes, that is correct. Drive to the walking bridge and there is a grassy parking area to the left. Easy breezy.

      July 3, 2013

  • Mary Lee K.

What is College St Access point? I know where Pete park is. Is it the same thing? Has to be close, is there enough room for me to pull a trailer around? I can't back it up and can't put the kayak on top of car alone, so...

    July 3, 2013

    • Maryellen S.

Mary, the access is north of the walking bridge...there is room to turn around in the grassy parking area. I would not go actually drive down the steep gravel road to the river unless you have a 4-wheel drive and know that there is room down there to turn around; i.e., there are not a lot of other vehicles down there already...you can stop at the top and look down. Our group is good about helping each other carry kayaks down to the river. :) If you have a kayak cart, that's a good place to use it.

I'll go if you can assure me it's a good trip for a novice? How do you get to the access point?

only worried about the rattled headed copper mocasins.

Looking forward to another great day on the water. Lets hope the rain holds off. Patsy and I are becoming pros at kayaking, slowly. This is our 3rd meet-up. WOW ! Loving it and the great group of people. See ya on the water.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
