This was a great paddle and the river gave us a reminder of its power, and gave us a new respect for both the fun and beauty and the risks involved with the sport.

Great trip! Would have liked to started earlier and done it twice if we had known it would be this fast.

LOL I said it would be high and fast! Glad everyone enjoyed and Maria came through like a champ! :)

Thank you to everybody today for chasing down my boat and rescuing my paddle. And let me just put one more shameless plug in for the NRS Ultra Jane wetsuit. When a girl gets sucked under a ford crossing Trammel Creek, swirls around a little, then gets spit out the other side in January, the Ultra Jane sure does come in handy when changing into dry clothing on a gravel bar. Ultra Jane!

So glad you made it out ok Maria! Glad you kept your shades on too! :-) I heard you were cool, calm and collected...and just plain ol' fearless! Good for you!

We need to deal with The Curse of Trammel Creek!!! Does anyone know a young priest and a old priest?

I've been known to be a water whisperer ;) (it's not everybody that fishes from before daylight to after dusk)

Yes I do !!! Priest Lake would be either young or old depending on how old a person is !!!!

The BGCC is always a fantastic time... Who cares about the paddle when you are hanging out with this group. Thanks to everyone who organized and Duane for pick up & delivery of my boat from the campsite. Looking forward to the next trip!

This was a short but exciting trip.
The group looked rather prepared for the possibilities and people really hustled when needed. Thanks for the trip!!!

As Jason said below, be sure to bring your dry bag with a second set of clothes. I do not believe that I have EVER been on a trip down Trammel Creek this time of the year when at least one or two members of the group didn't take an involuntary swim. And that's even very experienced paddlers. Will it be you this year? Don't be that person who we all have to loan bits and piece of our clothes to as you stand shivering on a sand bar.

Yes, Johnny, I am wearing my wetsuit tomorrow. I bet Jason will not. Ultra Jane!

I have a new respect for the small bridges over Trammel creek. Maria you are my new hero! You were so calm, collected through out this event.

    6 · January 11, 2014

    • Maria C. S.

And that's probably what saved me, I think. When I was in that hydraulic, then swirling around in the culvert with my seventy pound kayak, I was visualizing worst case scenario and plan how to overcome it. As it turned out, I just straightened out my body and the current shot me and my boat out. But if there had been debris blocking that culvert, there would have been much more of a struggle. I, too, now have a very healthy respect for the fords that cross many of our creeks. That could have been very, very bad...

The curse of Trammel continues ! Maria Stewart is tough as nails ! Disappeared under the bridge for what seemed an eternity. It stopped my heart ! As is the norm, folks rose to the occasion and transformed into hero mode to take care of one of our own. Great rescue and boat retrieval by Duanne, Jacqueline and Keith !
