Green River - HWY 185 to Youngs Ferry

This scenic section of Green River has a large  natural rock arch that you can paddle under (but it is always underwater so don't get your hopes up). We'll begin this 8 mile paddle by going up-stream to view the waterfall at the lock.  When water levels are up, it is possible to paddle up Indian Creek (just upstream from Young's Ferry). This paddle should take 4-5 hours.

This is a class I paddle, suitable for beginners and experienced paddlers. The river access point is the Honaker Ferry boat ramp behind the store at the bridge. The store will be a right turn (on HWY 1749) before you cross the bridge over Green River. The ramp is located just off Hwy 1749, behind the store. The local area is called Glenmore. Directions From Bowling Green: Hwy 185 north - 11.8 miles Turn right on Hwy 1749, then bear left to the boat ramp.

The water will be FREEZING!  You must wear appropriate cold weather gear (wet-suit, hat, gloves).  Bring extra clothes.

Good trip! Fast water made it quick! Could have done that twice!

Excellent day for paddling! Thanks to Matt as well for leading. It was a short paddle but we had a strong current because of all the rain. Looking forward to trying this one out during the summer.

Thanks for hosting, Matt. Another good paddle. First time on Green River and passed some really beautiful, natural landscape. Put in and take out had some serious mud going on. Enjoyed meeting some new, really nice people. I only saw one Bald Eagle, thanks to Mike pointing it out; it was really close and fabulous and sat there as we sat staring at it.

A very good stretch of river, but definatley want to do it again in the summer. Log across Indian Creek stops my progress up the creek for the fourth time. Will make it up the creek this summer even if i have to swim it !

Nice winter paddle. I had the closest view of bald eagles ever. I saw three on this trip. Put in and take out were very very muddy. Glad no one slipped, it would of been a disaster! Thanks to Matt for hosting.

See you tomorrow, Matt and Group. I'm bringing small, homemade Pumpkin Muffins with chocolate covered cranberries in them.

This was a strange storm. I got only minor icing on my road and concrete walks, but my wood deck steps are coated in ice and treacherous. 20 miles south the roads were a skating rink and 15 miles north likewise. Mammoth Cave area always gets more severe winter weather. Stay safe on the roads and the river tomorrow and enjoy the paddle.

Jason and I planned to be there but we got iced in up here at Mammoth Cave today (Friday). We tried to make it into the office today and had to turn around pretty much immediately. Roads are covered with ice here. And the temperature tomorrow morning is still only up to 28. So it won't be any better. Enjoy without us!

Bring extra clothing unless your wearing a dry or wet suit! Its going to be some COLD fast moving water! Scenery should be nice with the ice we have had.

I see Maria and Jason are coming. I think we will travel the same path once on the 65. If they can't assure me the directions are correct, I will meet at your house. Thanks for offering. I don't have a good GPS, it's not an option at this time.

Hey guys, most of you are salty vets of cold water paddles. For you that are not , I am going to insist that anyone going on this paddle bring an extra set of clothes. The water is still cold and although this is a nice flat paddle it is always better to be prepared in the event of a wet exit. A towel packed in with your clothes would also be a good idea ! See ya at the meetup !

I noticed the meetup time is 11:00. Is it supposed to be 10? I'd rather it be 10 but thats just me.

That was probably copied from a previous summer paddle...I would rather meetup at 10:00 as well...due to shuttle time, etc. Matt would be the one to change it since he's the Host with the MOST!
