West Fork of Drakes Creek - Ditmore Ford to Sadlers Ford

  • Feb 9, 2013 · 10:00 AM
  • The White Store

This scenic stretch of Drakes Creek is a favorite for some of our members. There are some Class I riffles, we'll pass the ruins of a historic mill and near the end there is a large flowing spring. The trip is about 7 miles long.

The put-in: Ditmore Ford Road off Hwy 1008, north of Franklin, KY.

The take-out: Sadlers Ford off Hwy 240.

Click HERE for driving directions from the put-in to the take-out.

Bring: lunch, water, extra dry clothes, sunscreen, and some rain protection.

The water will be FREEZING! Be sure to wear the appropriate cold weather gear: wet-suit or dry-suit, gloves, hat and water proof footwear.

Someone left behind a kayak paddle on this trip. Aluminum, mostly black with colored blades. I will have it with me tomorrow - Trammel Fork trip. [masked] or home[masked]

What a great day on the water with some great paddling friends...met some new folks who seemed to enjoy the day as well...only one place where we couldn't just paddle through but we had some awesome help moving some tree logs out of the way to make for easier passage. I give 5 stars to both co-leaders of the trip and to the rest of the group! Fun times! :)

One very nice day ! Since we had dual leadership, I must grade each on an individual basis. John Beaver= 5 stars. Mike=4.2 stars. This was a good group of folks to enjoy the day with. Thanks to all who came out and of course I am kidding about the 4.2 star rating !

I hope so. I thought Mike did an excellent job!!!!!

I think he was closer to a 4.5 than a 4.2, but why quibble over tenths?. Lets just average our points and round it down to 4. It was really fun anyway. And yeah, 5 stars all around Mike! Good to meet all of you.

John, what's the plan for the shuttle? Are we going to consolidate boats/gear at the store and run vehicles to the takeout before we go to Ditmore? If so, I'll bring my trailer. If we have 2-3 trailers we can probably consolidate down enough to only take to 4-5 vehicles to the put-in.

    February 6, 2013

    • John B.

Yes. I will have my trailer and racks, maybe Matt will bring his trailer, and I am sure that Duane will bring his.

      February 6, 2013

    • warren

Sounds good, I'll be there about 0930 with truck and trailer

Hey, some correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that this trip is actually about 12 miles long...a group of us did it last month with the water at 7.5+ and it took us around 5hrs if I remember correctly

    February 6, 2013

    • warren

that sounds about right...it was cold that day (38 deg) so it probably just seemed longer

      February 6, 2013

    • John B.

      I agree.

      February 6, 2013

  • matt w.

Its a long haul and I think the last time we had the gps it was between 9 and 10. I will bring mine Saturday so John and I can average it out.

Bob, hope you don't mind; I changed your RSVP to no since you can't go and someone else might want to...

Look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday. It looks like the weather will be good. Jason and I were with the group when we did this same stretch last month. It was fun, but freezing that time. Looking forward to the fun without the freezing this time. ;-)
