Holidays rising

Hail all,

I have a multitude of thoughts to convey and have had more bad experiences over an email system than I would care to report. So, for brevity's sake, I will try to hit the highlights to catch up some of you who are interested in being here (and have hung around this past year or so) and the rather large influx of new people who have joined us in the last month or two.

Overall, I see a trend in the Austin area that more or less mimics the typical generality of our country's changing times. This trend is more of a push in several areas that, when one ponders on their true nature and origins, are closely related to one another. For this crowd, the trend is not so extraordinary. But, the populace at large that I might refer to as "being asleep" still have yet to see this bigger picture.

More people are becoming self-aware and much less of the subservient drone that our pop-culture society has been trying to produce for several generations. With the unpopularity of a meaningless "war" taking away our families lives, the latest change in political attitude in hope of a real change and not an empty promise of change, a growing trend to use more organic products and fewer of the manufactured chemical remedies, and a larger growing interest in nature-based spirituality, we as a "pagan" community stand to only grow larger and stronger.

With growth of this sort, no matter what genre the growth happens, there are several plateaus to achieve where struggle and strife usually lingers. I hope that by staying with the three Meetups that I organize, I can bring about an easy transition of several types of pagan minds into a smoother function of our need to achieve greater spiritual goals. While I do not intend to be a mouthpiece for the pagan community at large, I do see an opening with the help of other elder minds to be an enabler of the lesser educated pagans that are coming out of the haze and into the potential spotlight that these Meetups represent. And by lesser educated, I mean in the ways of learning the spiritual arts, not referring at all to scholastic pursuits.

I, myself, have recently been in a personal haze as several aspects of my life constantly conflict and cause me to procrastinate and falter in my personal pursuits. But, the little guiding voice that we all seek to nurture in our minds keeps nudging me towards the goals that I ultimately intend to strive towards and accomplish. One of those accomplishments is to enable our little "community" to grow more cohesive, more collective, and, dare I use this word, more socialist. Notice if you would the lowercase spelling. I, by no means, intend to imply the negative aspect of the politicized use of that word. I mean the social act of people working together to achieve a mutual level of comfort, education, spiritual attunement, magical prowess and general equality in all other aspects that one may ascribe to being part of their pagan alignment.

So what does all that mean? Well, so much for brevity. But, to use the chef, Emeril, I intend to "kick it up a notch" in the coming year to make a more concerted effort to bring our decisive pagans together with our pagan-leaning folks and all those who join looking to learn a bit more and decide whether or not a non-subservient aspect of religion is for them.

In January we will have another 6-8 hour Saturday workshop on various topics relating to spiritual growth. This will be the second of what is becoming a biennial (twice a year) function. In between those will be the yearly Beltaine and Samhain festivals that are held locally by a group called Earth Spirit Alliance. I will attempt to facilitate many Austin-based pagans to come camp for a weekend to enjoy what this group has to offer individuals. This will be in the form of camping equipment that many may not have or don't wish to bother lugging around for an hour's drive.

I will also get back to producing those runic month emails and various minor essays that define the true nature and origins of all the holidays that we most commonly follow, yet are the most obscured by lack of pop-culture education of their true meanings and origins. I, of course, invite others to post helping emails and messages that might get people here to interact with other groups and their events and functions.

In short, I have been in judgment of myself recently and have found myself to be lacking. Therefore, I promise to do more in the next year to enable all those who find their way here to get more information on aspects of pagan activity that may spur them into strengthening themselves and their personal resolve to be more spiritually attuned.

One last tidbit I will say is to give my personal definition of "magic": "The strengthening of the inner self and the personal Will of that self in order to focus thoughts towards affecting a concrete outcome on one's personal being". In other words, you focus on strengthening your personal Will power to use yourself and your energy to get what you want out of your life. Notice how many "you"s there are in that explanation. Gismos, gadgets, idols and incantations are all exterior window dressing. Don't lose focus on all the clutter. The focus should be on you. And the power is in YOU. Find it.

In strength and desire,

Torvald Adolphson
