When: January 25, 2009

4:00 PM Percussion class ($20)
5:00 PM Jam session (free)

Where: 18th St Arts Center
[masked]th Street Main Gallery
Santa Monica, CA 90404

This is a weekly workshop to learn how to sing, play, and enjoy Brazilian music (samba pagode, chorinho, bossa nova, forro, batucada, samba reggae, and more!), studying with Carlinhos Pandeiro de Ouro of the Mangueira samba school in Rio, and known around the world as one of the great Brazilian percussionists.

You'll get a solid grounding in percussion techniques, a better understanding of Brazilian musical forms, and you'll meet other local fans of Brazilian music. All those who share a love for the music of Brazil are welcome!

Every Sunday, we meet at the 18th Street Arts Center. At 4PM, we have our percussion class, which is $20. This is focussed instruction on pandeiro, tamborim, tan-tan, caxixi, surdo, agogo, and other key instruments.

Then, at around 5PM or so, we kick off our jam session, which is open to everybody who wants to participate. The jam session is free. If you play any instrument, or like to sing, please come to the jam session, and bring sheet music if you have it. (Bring 4-6 copies of the tunes you'd like to play.)
