Apparently you can indicate that there should be no end date for recurring meetings, but Meetup won't schedule them. So we've got our recurring meeting now, next meeting is scheduled for June 19 on the main list. If people want to get together next week (I will be away), let me know and I'll put that up.

    June 5

  • Adrienne T.

Now that I've been made an organizer, I've been able to set up a new recurring event for our little group on the main page. So just sign up for that one, and you won't have to again.

    1 · May 29

  • Paul

Adrienne I cant find the RSVP for this event on the main page? It shows me as already having RSVP'd but I didnt??

    May 28

  • catherine

If I finish enough framing, I will get there by 10:30AM.

    May 28

  • Adrienne T.

If nobody RSVPs on the new meetup post list, it won't be posted on the main list, and others won't know there are people going. It doesn't matter if you are sure or not, you can write that on the post list if you want.

    May 28

  • debra k

I was hoping to make it Thursday, but will need to visit a client that day, so will shoot for next week. Enjoy!

    May 25

  • Paul

I would head up early and meet you there..... I would like to be there around 10 am

    May 25

  • Adrienne T.

I can't find any way to change the date on this, so I've set up a new post for this group, same name. Please join the new one so it gets posted on the main list, and say what time you might be arriving.

    May 25

  • Adrienne T.

I would like to go to Sandy Point at the end of Plum Island this time. I have a meeting in the morning so I won't be there until around 2 p.m., but others can go early. (No permit needed this time. Information about the preserve including fees and free entrance is below.) Anyone interested in coming?

    May 25

  • Paul

You folks planning on going out this coming Thursday?

    May 25

    • Adrienne T.

Yes, but I am concerned that suddenly I cannot change the date or location above.

Ok, I stopped at the beach on PI. Headed to the beach were 3 g-man looking guys wearing ties & with weapons in sight. Then the Sheriff's car arrived. Sorry to miss the excitement, but I felt I should leave.

    May 22

    • debra k

It's partly sunny here and wondering if I should have ignored the forecast! How is it up there Catherine? I'd like to paint today and like you, prefer not to paint alone.

      May 22

    • Adrienne T.

Wow that sounds very weird. I've never felt anything but safe. Perhaps it was a raccoon acting strangely or something. Didn't see any police activity at the reserve when I was there.

      May 22

  • Adrienne T.

Went to Sandy Point at Plum Island and it was just gorgeous. Lots of places to stand if you don't want to get sandy or risk ticks or whatever on the little board walk. I'm thinking next week we should just go there?

    2 · May 22

  • debra k

Just checked the future radar forecast and looks like rain will be on the coast by 2 pm and some heavy showers after. It takes me almost an hour to get to PI, so I think I'll stick to the Merrimack Valley today.

    May 22

  • Adrienne T.

I agree. Sadly, I think today is going to be raining intermittently. We can still go to that location next week if I let her know we want to. I will make it so.

    See you next week!

    May 22

    • debra k

The high probability of rain has changed my mind about going. Hope to make it next week.

      May 22

  • Adrienne T.

This next time, I will not be able to be there until around 1 or 2 p.m., but anyone can go earlier. Just let me know, and I'll email you a copy of the permit.

    May 22

    • catherine

ha ha -- it is sunny here too. Maybe I'll just head up there.

      May 22

    • Adrienne T.

Sounds like a plan. I"m sore from washing and oiling our deck yesterday, but I think I should pull myself together.

      May 22

  • Carrie

Thanks, Adrienne. Please e-mail the permit to me at [masked]
It's sunny here in Worcester and I plan to go anyway.

    May 22

    • Adrienne T.

Good for you! The location is the Sub-headquarters. Please be sure to stay within the marked areas - we don't have permission to go into the preserve, and watch out for any maintenance people or vehicles. Have a great time!

      May 22

  • Carrie

Adrienne, are we going or not today, May 22? I'm a bit confused by the mention of "next week." Will wait to hear back before I leave.

    May 22

    • Adrienne T.

We still have the permit for today, and I can email it to you if you want to go. Two of us have dropped out - but Catherine might still go.

      May 22

  • catherine

I'm still undecided…not a fan of cloudy-day painting, though I know it has its advantages!

    May 22

  • Paul

Adrienne I am going to cancel out... I have some things to take care of this morning.. I hope to come next week.

    May 22

  • catherine

I'll be there in the AM, weather permitting. I'll wait for traffic to calm down, so 10:00 or later.

    1 · May 21

If I can get my paint cart fixed today, I'll be there early too I think.

      May 20

  • Paul

Great I plan to get there early as I have plans for the afternoon.... I am thinking of being there by 9am..... See you then

    May 19

  • Adrienne T.

So permission is confirmed for us to use the Sub Headquarters area for painting this Thursday. We are allowed to use it from 9am to 5 pm. There is a restroom and plenty of really good views from there. We just have to be very careful be respectful that this is a maintenance area - so don't block or get in the way of buildings.

    1 · May 19

    • Adrienne T.

Entrance fee and free access info, plus links to the site was posted below last week.

      May 19

    • Adrienne T.

FYI - we had to get permission because it says fishing permit parking only.

      May 19

  • Adrienne T.

I moved the location on the map so you can see it. On the Plum Island map (http://www.fws.gov/uploadedFiles/Region_5/NWRS/North_Zone/Parker_River_Complex/Parker_River/ParkerRiverMap.pdf) it is not labeled, except for the bathroom and mechanic icons just before North Pool. As usual, the event it only cancelled if it is firmly raining - weather can be great out there even if elsewhere it's spitting.

    May 19

    • Adrienne T.

(It's not labeled on the map, but there is a sign as you drive there.)

Sorry to miss you! Hope your little one feels better. There's a new event I posted for next week. Same area, I'm just working on perhaps a new location out there.

      May 15

  • Adrienne T.

Also, Sandy Point is open, for anyone who wants to paint out there.

    May 15

  • Adrienne T.

I've posted a new event for next week. I'm going to see if we can use the Sub headquarters area (a little bit before Hellcat) as there are many better views there, as well as a restroom. I'll need to get permission as it requires a fishing permit, but I've never seen anyone parking there except ranger vehicles. I'll post the location once I talk to them. Fall back is Hellcat.

Also, be thinking about other areas you might like to paint at for future weeks. There's so much to paint at Plum Island that I could stay there forever, but I'm sure there are other great locations that have good parking and restrooms.

Found this info RE: Sandy Point. Looks like they're working on those potholes. I'll head to hellcat.
"Alert: Due to a road improvement project being conducted by the Parker River Wildlife Refuge, Sandy Point State Reservation will have limited access for the month of May. Monday – Thursday the road will be completely closed to all traffic (vehicle, peddle & foot). Friday-one lane will be open to all traffic until noon and then from noon through the weekend the road will be completely open to Sandy Point by all means of travel."
    http://www.mass.gov/eea/agencies/dcr/massparks/region-north/sandy-point-state-reservation.html

    May 15

  • debra k

I hope to be there late morning and will also head to Sandy Point to see how it looks. It can be windy down there, and last fall the road was a disaster - huge pot holes the size of small cows everywhere. Hopefully they've graded it. I have an evening meeting and will be leaving by 5:00 pm.

    1 · May 14

  • Adrienne T.

The 2 p.m. meeting time at Hellcat remains the same and I will be there.

However, my meeting in the morning may be cancelled so I might be able to come earlier, but I won't know for sure until tomorrow. If it is, I am planning to try go to Sandy Point at the very end of the preserve first. I didn't suggest it because it may or may not be open yet. Also, the road between Hellcat and there is unpaved, so it's rutted bumpy, but there are toilets out there. The best place to park, if there's room, is the second lot (turn right after the first lot and down another little bumpy road). There's a little board walk that takes you out to the beach and some platforms and is nice to paint from. If it's closed, Hellcat is my fallback.

Again, I'll be at Hellcat to paint at 2 p.m.

    See you there!

Don't forget to bring bug spray. If the green or black flies are out, you will want it.

    1 · May 12

    • debra k

Thankfully the greenheads don't arrive (typically) until July, so they shouldn't be a bother yet. Black flies & gnats however, have been increasing in numbers lately.

      May 13

    • Adrienne T.

Often there is a breeze to keep them away, but if you're like me, the prime painting spot might end up not having any.

Adrienne looking forward to meeting you tomorrow.... see you then

Meet at Hellcat Wildlife Observation area, about halfway from the end of the preserve. Detailed map is at: http://www.fws.gov/uploadedFiles/Region_5/NWRS/North_Zone/Parker_River_Complex/Parker_River/ParkerRiverMap.pdf

Admission is $5, or you can buy a season pass for $20 that will get you into all federal parks. Also some people can get a free state pass from their library. The tip of plum island is a State park, and you can show that pass and say you are going to Sandy Point, and they will allow you in. http://www.mass.gov/eea/agencies/dcr/massparks/passes-and-fees/borrow-a-parkspass.html

    Information: http://www.fws.gov/refuge/Parker_River/visit/directions.html

    May 11

    • catherine

I'm an hour from Plum Island, but could get there by 9-9:30. Need to be home by 3:30.

      May 11

    • Adrienne T.

I'm about the same, about an hour. 10 am would be most civilized as we mostly miss rush hour. Light will not be as desirable near noon, but we're still getting out there, and the path of least resistance usually works best, for me, anyway.

      May 11

  • Adrienne T.

Meet in the parking lot. Will wait until 2:15, then will be going out to paint. Will not be cancelled unless is it's firmly raining - clouds and a little spitting sometimes make for really dramatic sky there. I have a boxy maroon Scion XB you can look for. Email me at [masked] if you want to share phone numbers.

    Hi everyone,
I just saw this thread - The light has been so wonderful lately and it would be great to get out there. I can paint mornings only during the week, so I can't make next Thu's outing, but I'll see if I can schedule a morning soon (I have an irregular work schedule). Or maybe I'll go Thu in the AM and hope to cross paths with you all when you arrive later. =)
