I hope you realize that artists may only deduct the actual cost of the painting; canvas, paint, frame and hardware to put it together, per IRS regulations. The deducted value of an artwork is only appreciated by the original "buyer" who may then appreciate a tax deduction by donation. There really is no incentive for an artist to donate other than to support a particular cause. I donate to wildlife causes because that is my interest but the donations are simply the material cost of the painting  and the awareness that the organization can enjoy some funding by it's sale. This has been an ongoing issue in legislation for about 20+ years and to date, artists are restricted to only their costs.  Many articles have been written and the issue remains the same.
Good luck on your event
Gloria

Greetings Members:

Do you have nice framed artwork just sitting under your bed gathering dust?  I have a great opportunity for you to donate your original artwork to support San Diego Homeless Youth and get tax credit.
Just bring your ready-to-hang work to Saturday's meetup (April 19th in La Jolla) and I will take it to the organizer.  The items will be part of an fundraising event on May 11th which includes a silent auction.  All donors will receive a receipt for tax credit.  Any nice paintings that you value at over $75 would be appreciated.  This is the last weekend to donate your work.  All auction items must be in next week.

PhotoCharity (partners with San Diego Homeless Youth Org) is having their benefit) supports a 20 bed emergency shelter and provides breakfast, dinner, music and art classes, and counseling to the nearly 2000 homeless kids in SD, ages 12-20.
Want to know more?  Here is the link.

Thanks for your consideration,
Assistant Organizer,

Mary Williamson
