I would like to invite you to the first in a series of tours given by a friend of mine -- Deciphering the Opera (and its surroundings). Dr. Catherine Loveland Aubin (M.A. Harvard, Ph.D. Columbia, all degrees in history) brings to life the REAL story of the Palais Garnier opera-house. We will learn how the city’s most imposing building (next to perhaps Notre Dame) turned greed, sex and social climbing into majesty, and understand the stupefying gift its “little dancers” made to Paris.
Catherine shows more than celebrated sites alone. She also reveals places and points of view that are often overlooked and throws light on how France’s dramatic past merges with today’s dynamics. I have personally taken this tour and it is absolutely fabulous. I highly recommend it!
Our groups are a maximum of 20 people for this exhilarating 3.5 hour visit. The cost is 25€ per person, inclusive (all fees and ticket into the Opera House are included). We will meet at 10h15 to begin at 10:30 on the terrace of the Galleries Lafayette* on the 7th floor (40 boulevard Haussmann), where there is a stunning view of Palais Garnier. I hope you will join us for this historical insight to one of the most beautiful places in Paris!
* The terrace at Galleries Lafayette is closed in bad weather. In that case we'll meet on the steps of the opera-house, so check your email the night before. Catherine will have a big red bag, and me a red hat -- you'll know it's us!
Please send a confirmation email to [masked] to reserve a space. This event is being advertised in other places, so the first 20 confirmations will have have a reserved place! Thank you!
