it's like bowling, only there's no ball.?

Or pins.

Or bowling alley.

And instead of rolling stuff, you jump around and move and fight and stuff. :-D

I think I read about this guy before stepping foot in Primal. He has some very logical and beneficial points, so I'm very excited that his teachings are going to get some practical exposure here.

I think the "net gain" of this type of practice will be--for many traceurs and traceusses--a way of?seeing how?the terms?"flow" and "efficiency"?might be incorporated into?one's movements.

I could hardly say it any better!

I have obtained and read many of his physical education books, and translated the early version that google put online recently. Besides being rightfully credited as a central source of inspiration for the creators of Parkour (for instance he coined the term quadrupedal movement and made it a physical exercise of its own; you can find most vaults described in his books, etc), Georges H?bert spent his life analyzing, practicing and teaching the fundamental modes of human movement.

I find his approach to physical training really interesting, and I think it would provide a great basis of strength and skill for any traceur to build upon. That's why I'm starting a class that is specifically following his method rather than just incorporating bits and pieces in a regular Parkour class (which I do frequently too ;)

I don't know if it will work well, and I expect it won't work for everybody, as it focuses strongly on basic but dependable moves rather than fancy ones. But people interested in "being strong to be useful" might find the skill set and training approach of H?bert's method quite useful.

Georges Hebert was this guy who kind of predates parkour, but who came up with a theory of "wellness" based on moving the way humans are supposed to move naturally.

He's the one who coined the term "Be strong to be useful."

Read all about him here:

He's a pretty fascinating character, and his training methods are being resurrected today by many people, including many traceurs.

The final goal of physical education is to make strong beings. In the purely physical sense, the Natural Method promotes the qualities of organic resistance, muscularity and speed, towards being able to walk, run, jump, move quadrupedally, to climb, to keep balance, to throw, lift, defend yourself and to swim.

In the "virile" or energetic sense, the system consists in having sufficient energy, willpower, courage, coolness, and fermet? ("firmness").

In the moral sense, education, by elevating the emotions, directs or maintains the moral fibre in a useful and beneficial way.

The true Natural Method, in its broadest sense, must be considered as the result of these three particular forces; it is a physical, virile and moral synthesis. It resides not only in the muscles and the breath, but above all in the "energy" which is used, the will which directs it and the feeling which guides it.
