If you are familiar with Staten Island you can go to Joann's. The prices are good. It's a long way though. I plan to go and start early in the day because it may take two to three hours to get there then you'll need time for shopping and time to get back. The address of the store is at 55 Heaney Ave. I am not sure of the exact position, but both the SI48 and SI98 regular buses (These are not Express Buses)  runs on Forest Ave. Take the R Train to White Hall/SI Ferry, then take the ferry across and be sure to ask which bus of the two would stop at the location.

Something's waiting for you...

Greetings All,
First off, sorry about the previous email.  I accidentally hit the "send button."  Second, I have been getting a lot of emails from beginner knitters asking if our "little" knitting group is right for them.  To that, I say, come one, come all.  We are a diverse group of knitters, with probably half of our members being relatively new to the knitting craft.  All you need to come to a meet-up are needles, yarn and PATIENCE.  Knitting can be rough at the beginning, but it really is easy once you get the hang of it.  I swear!
So, in the effort to help bring you newbie knitters into the fold, I am declaring our second January meet-up, "Knitting 101."  Between 7.15 and 8.15 PM, the assistant organizers and I, and any willing meet-up member will gladly teach any beginner the basics of knitting (i.e. > the knit cast on, the knit stitch, and binding off).
Assuming this meet-up is successful, I am thinking of adding another meeting for the 24th of January, "Knitting 102."  What do you think?  Good idea?  Please let me know by going to > http://knitting.meetup.com/937/polls/ and placing your vote.
At the last meet-up, the legendary "Barbara"  honored me with the gift of the Stitch 'N Bitch Calendar 2008.  I was beyond flattered but, unfortunately, already owned a copy. So, in the spirit of giving, I would like to announce the first PARK SLOPE KNITTING CIRCLE CONTEST.  The winner will be awarded the calendar.  Contestants will have two weeks to make 4 by 4 inch squares out of sport or light worsted weight yarn (US 5 to 8 needles).  Prizes will be awarded to the person who knits the most number of squares and the most inventive square.  The instructions on how to construct the squares will be given at the meet-up, but can be found  here.  It will kick off at the next meet-up, at 8.30 PM, so no cheating by starting early.
Once completed, I hope to construct a blanket and donate it to a local charity.

As always, take care,
Archie
