Re: [knitting-937] Wanna join my project?

Hi Ann,
This is not for sale. I am spending my own money to do this project so that the boys and girls can feel warm and appreciated for what they do. I have found people in Iraq to send it to already so that they can give out the liners to their unit and other units. All liners will be sent directly to avoid opportunists. My life is quite busy and I am taking on a huge project like this, but one liner at a time will help the troops. Most of them are from poor families.
Thank you.
 Yasmin

It might be more effective to join up with the Ships Project instead of starting something new.  You can write to them at [address removed]

Their specifications for items the troops want to receive have been refined repeatedly since 2001, and they have sent nearly 300,000 items to troops all over the world. The Ships Project has a relationship with the armed services which allows items they send to be distributed immediately to the troops.

I hope you all will consider joining up with them so you can be sure your time making items is well spent.

suestine, you are right that the government should provide all sorts of items to the troops, but they don't.  That's why we need to make the things they need.  Right now I know a lot of knitted slippers which fit over swollen feet are needed in Germany.  You can get the details by joining the group on Yahoo and reading the posts over the past few days.

It means a lot to the men and women that someone who doesn't know them will take the time to make something for them.

The website for this group is The Ships Project website: http://www.theshipsproject.com.

I think I've been working with them for about a year now.  They mail items to the troops every month.

Happy Stitching!

If these are anything like what fits inside a hardhat, they are made commercially for about 25 cents each and our government should be supplying them to our soldiers.  I know about these liners because I bought one and wore it inside my hardhat in minus 20 F field work.

Hi fabulous knitters! Wanna join my knitting project? Imagine being
away from home for a year or more, sweating in the daytime & freezing
at night. I am knitting helmet-liners for the boys and girls serving
overseas and am looking for the participation of my fellow city
knitters. The temp drops really low at night in Iraq, not to mention
the much colder Afghanistan. They are away from family and friends, so
lets work to keep the cold wind off of their necks and faces while
warming their hearts. Call or email me. Here is the web link for from the pattern creator. http://knitwitnews.com/helmet_pattern.htm Let's take it on!
