Welcome to the Help Translate Meetup.com into Italian Meetup Group!
Welcome to the "Help Translate Meetup.com into Italian" Meetup Group. Meetup HQ is in the process of professionally translating Meetup.com into Italian. While professionals will be doing the translation, we think actual Meetup.com users should be the ones to help out with editing and proofreading. Who knows our site better than the people who use it!
Who should join this Meetup Group?
People who are fluent in English and Italian and want to help Meetup HQ translate the site into Italian. When appropriate, we will invite other organizers from our community to participate who we feel will contribute in a positive way. We may also remove members if necessary.
Who should not join this Meetup Group?
If you are NOT fluent, please don't join. This Meetup is NOT for people interested in learning the Italian language or more about the culture. Do not join this Meetup Group if you need to use machine translation like Google Translate.
Why should you help translate Meetup.com?
We believe everyone should have the right to organize a local group, or find one of the thousands already meeting up face-to-face, no matter what language they speak! We believe in the power of self-organized groups to meet people needs (and change the world). Meetups help their members advance causes, network with professional peers, get health support, pursue hobbies or just organize a regular playgroup for their kids. If you are the organizer of a Meetup in Italy, more people will be able to join your Meetup Group and interact with your other members.
Below are answers to some commonly asked questions:
How does this Meetup Group work and how do I participate?
Meetup HQ will use message boards, the "files" section and google documents to share translations with group members. We will email the group when we have something for you to proofread, edit or translate and instruct you on what the next steps are. It's likely we will ask members of this group to work together to help us translate new English words and phrases in the future.
This is a virtual group, not a local group. Anyone from anywhere in the world can join (so long as you are fluent in English and Italian of course). We do not have any plans of actually meeting up at the moment.
What should I do now?
Review the latest documents in the files section and leave your comments/suggestions/recommendations in the message boards. Or you can contact Mark or Rich with Meetup.
You can help by spreading the word that Meetup will be in Italian by the end of this summer. In the weeks to come we will be asking members of this Meetup Group to proofread and make edits to translated words and phrases.
If you know anyone who is fluent in English and Italian and would like to help us translate the site, invite them to join this Meetup Group!
If you have any questions, please contact the Organizer of this Meetup.
Thanks!
Mark
