Friday Night Party Hike: The Perkiomen Hoppy Trails To The Ales

IMPORTANT: THIS IS A NIGHT HIKE. TO PARTICIPATE YOU MUST BRING A WORKING HEADLAMP OR FLASHLIGHT! NO LIGHT...NO HIKE! PERIOD! SAFTETY FIRST!

I'm Planning To Hike On The Perkiomen Trails And Visit Some Pubs and Watering Holes Along The Way. If Anyone Would Like To Join Me For A Hoppy Trails and Ales Night Hike...Then C'mon Along!

Hoppy Trails and Ales? Is it a hike? Is it a pub-crawl? Maybe it’s the best of both. All I know is...It's Going To Be An Absolute Blast Night Hiking the Perkiomen Trail Under The Moonlight in the Heart of Montgomery County and Meander To a Number of Pubs and Bars Along The Trail.

We Mapped Out An Easy, Uh, Painless 10 Mile Friday Night Hike. We'll Leave The Cars Behind...Meet Friends and Happy Hikers, Hit The Trails and Make A Stop For Some Refreshing Beverages and Food. Then We'll Hike Back To Our Convenient Starting Point.

Plan A: We'll Meet At DaVinci's Pub In Collegeville For A Late Happy Hour (They're Extending Their 4-6 Happy Hour Until 7pm Just For Us!). I'll Post The Happy Specials Shortly.

The DaVinci's Pub Parking Lot Is Right Next To The Perkiomen Trail. After The Happy Hour, at 7pm Sharp, We Will Begin Forming Three Separate Hiking Groups Each Led By It's Own Co-Leader. We Will Stagger The Starting Time For Each Group By a Few Minutes And Hit The Trail For The 5+ Mile / 2 Hour Hike To Oaks and The Water Tower Bar (Arnold's Bistro and Bar) For Some Beverages, Food and Live Music.

From The Water Tower, We'll Arrange Two Different Departure Times To Make The 5+ Mile Hike Back To Collegeville. For Those That Only Want To Hangout For a Shorter Period of Time and Then Make an Earlier Departure Back To The Starting Point, We'll Have a Co-Leader Rally Up Those People At a Specific Time To Make The Return Hike. Those That Wish To Hang Out At The Water Tower Longer Can Depart At a Later Specified Time and Return With The Second Contingent.

We'll End The Hike Once Everyone Returns To Collegeville.

For Those That Don't Want To Close Out The Evening After The Hike... There Will Be Live Music At DaVinci's In Case Anyone Is Interested In Going Back In There After The Hike.

Plan B: For Those That Don't Want To Hike 10+ Miles OR Be Out Too Late...Please Arrange a Carpool Shuttle With Other Meet Uppers. Drive Your Cars To The Water Tower in Oaks and Park A Car or Cars There and Then Drive To DaVinci's Pub in Collegeville To Start The Hike. Then Once We Complete The Initial 5 Mile Leg of The Hike To The Water Tower Bar In Oaks Then You Drive Back To Collegeville To Pick Up The Other Car(s).

Please Note: Let's Hike and Drink Responsibly. No Alcoholic Beverages Should Be Carried or Consumed On The Trails During The Hike. We're Stopping In At The Bars For That. And Be Sure To Sober Up Before Driving.

We Meet At 7:00 PM: DaVinci's Pub in Collegeville. Text/Call me at[masked] To Coordinate.

Hike Trail Map PDF: To Be Added

Distance: Approx 10 Miles

Total Time: Who Knows? ;)

Hike Level: Easy To Moderate (Distance)

Good, comfortable walking/hiking shoes.

Rain will most likely cancel hike but we can still meet at one of the pubs for a few drinks (ON BAD WEATHER DAYS I WILL ALWAYS POST A HIKE STATUS IN COMMENTS AROUND 60-90 MINUTES PRIOR TO POSTED HIKE START TIME OR YOU CAN CALL/TEXT ME AT[masked] FOR AN UPDATE).

As always...PLEASE BRING WATER and other essential items you may need.

Dogs: Not Recommended If Going To The Bars

Arrival and Start Times: Please meet us at the scheduled start time for QUICK meet and greet introductions, hike overview and then PROMPT departure.

Thanks for organizing /coordinating Paul. Great idea for a combo event! My first 'Party/Hang' Hike. Nice group of folks and new friends!

Our first official party hike was fun! Most people choose to do the shuttle option which worked out great. I think that will be the best way to go for future party hikes. Also, I think Saturday nights will be better than Friday nights too.

At some point we'll do the reverse of this hike and go to the Appalachian Brewing Company.

For those that hiked one way...the total distance was 6.25 Miles. Those of us doing the full hike we racked up 12.5 Miles. Total Elevation Gain...10 Feet. ;) The next party hike up will most likely be either Oaks to Fitzwater Station to Phoenixville or Conshohocken to Manyunk. Stay tuned!

Thanks to my co-leaders Steve, Wendy and Careyann. And thanks to Rich D for sweeping! It worked out well having separate groups moving at different speeds.

Thanks to everyone that participated! Hope to see you all soon!

Hi Regina, Have a great weekend...catch you next time.

      April 11, 2014

  • Paul 😎

Hi All, The weather forecast doesn't seem to be cooperating with us for tomorrow night. As of now, there's a 60-70% chance of rain...near a quarter inch. Stay tuned tomorrow for the final call if the hike is a go or not.

If the hike gets cancelled, fear not...all is not lost! The Happy Hour will still be on at DaVinci's Pub from 4-7pm. And many more of these Hoppy Trails To Ales Hikes will be scheduled soon.

For anyone interested doing half the hike and arranging a carpool shuttle, I suggest starting the conversation here. Plan to meet at the actual Water Tower by Oaks Expo Center. The Water Tower is easy to spot from a distance and is located in the parking lot nearby the Water Tower Bar. Meet at this spot, leave a car and then drive to DaVinci's Pub in Collegeville to start the hike. Once we reach The Water Tower you can then drive back to Collegeville to drop off the driver of the first car.

Hi Kathleen, Yes...we'll be scheduling more of these soon. Hope you can join us another time.

Hi All, To help more smoothly manage this ever-growing hiking event I've decided to split all the hikers into 3 separate groups that will be led by a Co-Leader and be separated a few minutes apart. This way we won't have a massive group of hikers.

As far the amount of time we'll spend at the Oaks end of the hike (at The Water Tower Bar), I've also decided that we'll arrange two separate departure times. Anyone that only wants to hang out at the Water Tower for a shorter time (an hour or so) and then make an earlier return to the start in Collegeville, we'll have a co-leader rally those people at a specific time to make the journey back. Everyone else can hang out longer and make the return with the 2nd hiking contingent. Also, for those that don't want this to be a long night OR don't wish to hike the full 10+ miles, please consider arranging a carpool shuttle so that once you hike the initial 5+ miles to Oaks, you can then be driven back to the starting point instead of hiking back.

Paul, It might be hard to tell but do you have an idea of how late the evening will be?

    April 2, 2014

    • Paul 😎

Hi Diane, I revised my answer...I would estimate til Midnight or so. Earlier for those opting for Plan B to carpool/shuttle back to the start.

      April 3, 2014

  • Paul 😎

Hi All, I'm sizing up the group to let the bars know how many people may be attending this event. So that I can get an accurate count, if anyone RSVP'd in more than one of the the three Meet Up Groups, then please update your RSVP's so that you're only signed up in one of the groups. Hopefully once I find out how many people the bars are willing to accommodate I can open up the Wait Lists so that everyone can join us. Thanks for your cooperation. ;)

    April 2, 2014

    • Paul 😎

As of Wednesday morning...there are 76 people signed up including everyone on the Wait Lists. This will be just a small gathering. ;)

Hi All, Steve B and I scouted out portions of the Perkiomen and Schuylkill River Trails on Saturday. It's looking like the route for this first party hike will be between Oaks and Collegeville. The route will be approx 5 miles each way for about 10 miles total. If anyone does not want to do that much mileage, then a possible option will be for some people to carpool and leave cars at one end of the route and then shuttle to the beginning of the hike.

There will be watering holes (bar stops) located at both ends of the hiking route. So we can begin at a bar for Happy Hour then hike 5 miles to the other end and do another bar stop and then return to the starting point.

I will be updating the final details for this hike soon...stay tuned.

Please Plan To Hike and Drink Responsibly!
