454 North Creek Road, West Chester, Pe
I am re-posting this hike for Wednesday night if anyone wants to join. The forecast is calling for morning rain and clear in the afternoon. I will monitor the weather forecast and cancel by 4:30pm if necessary. The Preserve will be muddy, so plan accordingly. Also, with the humidity we have been having adequately hydrate before and during the hike. Look forward to seeing everyone!
I am very excited to let all of you know that this is the first "official" hike that I will be leading. The objective of this hike is to have a fun and fit workout, in a scenic environment. I thought I could share some of what I learned over the past six months, as someone recently new to hiking. It will mirror the Beginner Hike that occurred earlier this year at Stroud Preserve.
The focus of this hike is to invite those who have never tried it, to do so without the concern of being in a group and not being able to pace accordingly. As with all hikes we will monitor distance, pace and elevation. The goal is a three (3) mile distance hike, at a moderate pace with little elevation or hills. We will get to bush-wacking down the road :).
For this hike we will stick to the Yellow Loop Trail which will equal 2.4 miles and add distance if necessary. Please see the map below for details.
During the month of June I will be posting a weekly Monday evening hike. As in the prior series, we will gradually build up both distance and elevation with the goal of going to Valley Forge and joining Wendy for her weekly intermediate hikes.
Stroud Preserve Parking: We will meet at the parking lot on North Creek Road in West Chester. Please plan to arrive at 6:00PM for introductions and count-off, with a prompt scheduled departure for 6:15PM. The hike will last 90 minutes.
The Stroud Preserve consists of 571 acres of culturally and ecologically important land in Chester County. This rolling mosaic of once-pastured grasslands, working farmlands, and woodlands now serves as wildlife habitat and a unique site for research by the Stroud Water Research Center, one of the premier stream research labs in North America.
