About Dennis Cante
Dennis Cante is the Co-founder and Artistic Director of The Energy of Dance, Inc., an organization dedicated to promoting health, happiness and good values through the dance of Argentine Tango. Dennis has been active in the Los Angeles dance community for over ten years. He began his career dancing salsa for ten years, performing for three years with the Latin Dance Pro Company. Since 2004, Argentine Tango has been his passion. Dennis has immersed himself in the tango world, competing, performing and teaching. He won first place in the local tango competition held at Sabor Del Tango Milonga. He has trained with Linda Valentino in Los Angeles, as well as noted Buenos Aires teachers including Oscar Casas and Ana Miguel, Maxi Copello and Nadia Johnson, Gustavo Benzecry Sabá and María Olivera, Graciela Gonzalez, as well as Jorge Torres and Maria Blanco, Alejandro Barrientos and Rosalia Gasso, Carlos Barrionuevo and Mayte Valdes, Claudio Villagra, Maximiliano Cristiani, and Leandro Oliver and Laila Rezk.
In addition, Dennis had the privilege of working with Marcela Duran, a living Argentine Tango legend, who danced with Carlos Gavito for many years. It was an amazing experience to work with her, as Dennis gained much insight that he is now able to contribute to the Tango community. Dennis’ unique connection to the music, his technique and his elegance attract much attention from experienced dancers as well as tango novices.
Dennis was raised in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Upon moving to the United States, he found dance, and especially Argentine Tango. Dennis believes that tango is not just a collection of steps, but is a feeling that is derived from the connection to one's partner and to the music. Tango has changed his life and inspired great personal growth. He now shares this passion with his students, inspiring both new and advanced tango dancers to enjoy this beautiful art, growing and achieving their goals through the discipline of Argentine Tango.
