Please RSVP so we can get an accurate headcount for food & drink which will be provided by UberMedia.

John Clingan will provide an update on the status of Java Enterprise Edition 7, which will include PaaS (platform-as-a-service) capabilities for cloud computing, JAX-RS 2.0, and many other good things.

John is a Principal Product Manager on the GlassFish Server and Java EE product team at Oracle Corporation, and prior to that at Sun Microsystems.

Rough Agenda

  • 7:00pm - 7:15pm Start to Eat & Mingle
  • 7:15pm - 7:25pm Introductions
  • 7:25pm - 7:30pm Identify those with open positions (no contingency recruiters)
  • 7:35pm - 7:37pm Speaker & Talk Introduction
  • 7:37pm+ The Talk!

There are several parking garages within walking distance:

The nearest are probably Parson's parking structure and the adjacent lot on the corner of Union and Pasadena Ave.

On-street parking is metered, but only until 8pm. That's the least expensive parking option, but availability is limited.

For rail users, the nearest Goldline Metro stop is Memorial Park, which is a few blocks east of the Idealab offices and is a great option for those coming from LA.

I enjoyed the talk very soon-- John has done a great job in driving home the new features of JEE7 and Glassfish 4. However, I was rather disappointed with the rather uninformative Q&A afterward. Instead of having a real engaging discussion on the pros and cons of the upcoming stuff from a technical perspective, we got stuck for almost 20min on the business model of glassfish and philosophy of open source, which, albeit interesting in their own rights, was not why I was there for.
