Mithali's family and I went to the Cypress one. Mithalis had hundreds of cards, and I made 40 of them. We visited a lot of moms and brought many smiles. It is my pleasure to see you there, Mithali.

Hi Everyone, I want to give a big shout out and thank you to all those who attended the Mother's Day event. Sorry for the last minute confusion. There were some last minute issues that were out of my hand, I promise we will do this better for the Father's Day event. I have loved reading the stories written about these precious people, the elderly in our society. Fast forward our lives, I hope that we are visited by angels much like all of you did. Thank you for keeping the wonderful spirit of this group alive and kicking. I would love to explore doing this project more often. I have the coordinators name and number. Message me on this board if you are interested in being involved, I can set up a group meeting to make it a more coordinated and organized effort going forward.
    Cheers, Vanitha

I would love to be part of some nursing home visits that are more on-going, hopefully maybe on Sundays either before or after their lunch time, or even be part of helping to feed those that cannot feed themselves.

A group of seven of us went to Colonial Oaks Assisted Living around S. Braeswood & Kirby, most had Alzheimers or Dementia and even though they didn't understand fully the cards or even Mother's Day, what you could see and feel from them is that they were loved and that someone, anyone took the time to come see them, hug them and talk to them. They wouldn't have cared if they won the lottery, they just so dearly wanted attention, affection & love.

All of us were touched, they wanted hugs and hugs and more hugs :) and just wanted to feel they were thought about and came alive that people took the time to talk to them and interact with them.

If I had more time (I volunteer twice a week, separate days @ The BEACON & Star of Hope) I would create a meetup group called "The Forgotten One's". Sometimes I felt like for whatever reason they didn't get as much attention as they thirsted for. I agree with Connie and probably several others that we should try to do this more often.

I agree that is an excellent suggestion. I have seen it before while caring for my mom.

Unfortunately, I cancelled because I did not get info till last minute. However, I will probably go to a location in my area. Please let us know all pertinent information for future events so one can plan better. Thanks!

I updated our RSVP. The locations are too far away. I have to work tomorrow and was planning on doing this early in the morning thinking the location was close by.

I'm not sure if I can make it

I heard that all the cards will have already been made by the Organization (The Holiday Project) sponsoring this event and we will just be going to the nursing home locations allocated to us (PASS IT ON) to hand out the cards in groups of the people who show up per each nursing home we were given. This was going to be confirmed and then posted on here, so no one unnecessarily bought any supplies that were not needed. Still waiting to see the update before I make a decision to get any supplies if they won't be needed.

Yes I was thinking of going to Hallmark? Any other ideas? Or Michaels or art supply place? Just brainstorming

Hobby Lobby is another place that has a lot of supplies. They also have sales fairly often.

We need to have a clear idea how this is going to work so things won't be chaotic. Details would be most helpful. Thanks!

Is each person responsible for bringing the supplies needed to make a certain amount of cards?? The description is a bit vague, if everyone brings supplies will we have too much, if some people don't will we be short. How many cards are needed? I don't mind contributing a larger amount of money to buy supplies if someone more "in-the-know" understands how much is needed and doesn't mind getting them.

Good questions. Still waiting for an answer for my question 5 days ago.

Will we be working in shifts or stay the four hours? Just want an idea of how things will be organized.

    April 30, 2014

  • Cindy

Do you need to be an experienced card maker?

    March 11, 2014

    • Vanitha

No experience needed but if you do know of one, that's a bonus!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
