Hello, I am new to the group and looking forward to the first 2008 meetup.
Yes an art show is a great vehicle to show your talents. I have to agree with Keith, the last place you want to have an opening is your home or Studio.
There are many Galleries that would love to have us show our work along with theirs, some months are slow and filler pieces are needed to draw the Art world.
I can see what the schedule looks like for the RED CAT Center at the Walt Disney Concert Hall,
they rent different sizes spaces, At times donating it.
I know three Galleries of the top of my head, and two very successful photographers that surely would love to add their experience or space.

Perhaps someone could explain a little further as to why that isn't what to do.
I know of several artists, other media though, who do have sales in their home/studio. Some are well known artist too.  So, just wondering what the drawbacks are?
BTW, since the last time I mentioned having a show I had planned to talk to a couple of people in galleries but as noted, they are booked up years ahead.

Doing this in someone's home is exactly not what to do.
