Hi Ronald, I'm the Photography Coordinator at the Millard
Sheets Center for the Arts at Fairplex, and
we host an annual photography competition and resulting exhibit
at the L.A. County Fair (Sep. 5-28).
This year's juried competition deadline is May 16, 2008. It
will result in an exhibit potentially reaching 1.4 million
viewers that attend the Fair annually and display both the
competition winners and highlights in photographic history,
from pinholes to pixels! The jury panel comprises jurors from
the Smithsonian's National Museum of American Art, the
UCR/California Museum of Photography, and Nash Editions.
Photographers 18 and over may enter in any of five categories
related to capturing movement; professional and amateur entries
will be judged separately. Entries are accepted and judged
online. Shipping credit is available. Prizes include
"featured artist" exhibition status, cash, catalogues,
inclusion in an online exhibit, and admission to the L.A.

, this exhibit is being held by the Getty Center and will be on hand for you to see till August 10, 2008.
Since the beginning of photography in the 1830s, painters and sculptors took up the new medium as a tool. The theme of the artist and the camera has been an important aspect of the Getty's photographs collection since its inception in 1984 and continues to shape its holdings. This can be seen in the selection for this exhibition of acquisitions made in the last decade, which explores the interconnectedness of art and photography.
I do hope that you will enjoy some of these activities, and as always let me know if you would like to make any of these Meetups.
I thank you all look forward to seeing you.
