Free! KEXP daytime shows at MFNW

Hi all

Last year the very best show I saw during all of MFNW was the Antlers at one of the free KEXP live sessions at the Doug Fir lounge.  And the whole thing lasted a mere 40 minutes.

KEXP does these live sessions every year and sometimes the music and connection between audience and band transcends the big events that take place around the city.  If you couldn't afford a MusicFest Northwest pass or just want to see some of the better bands from the festival playing at a more intimate venue, I'd suggest coming down early and immersing yourself in some great (free!) music. This year's lineup is as follows:

Thursday, September 6th

10:30 - Radiation City

12:30 - Ceremony

2:30 - Purity Ring

4:30 - Starf*cker

Friday, September 7th

10:30 - Menomena

12:30 - The Pains of Being Pure at Heart

2:30 - Lost Lander

4:30 - Black Mountain

Saturday, September 8th

12:00 - Dinosaur Jr.

1:30 - Milo Greene

3:00 - The Hives

4:30 - Red Kross

I plan to be there for a good chunk of Thursday (wearing a bright blue Always Sunny in Philly t-shirt) and the first part of Friday (with a Vandelay Industries t-shirt).  Come say hello if you want.

Please note you may have to exit and re-enter the venue between acts (if things get crowded).  And it definitely will for the Saturday shows.  I'm not so sure about the weekday events but expect to do so and get there early for the bands you want to see.  Did I mention it's all free?!!

Apparently, that was Hello Echo who played yesterday in place of the last act. From what little I saw, they were quite good.

Sorry I missed you guys. I saw Purity Ring and some of Starfucker there yesterday. Not sure why DF said they were cancelling. I should be there for PBPH today.

The schedule is definitely subject to change. Yesterday I waited to see Ceremony for an hour, only to be told that the band got their performance date mixed up and didn't show. Too late to get a replacement band. Starfucker also cancelled. Today is Memomena at 10:30, which I am skipping because I have seen them a bunch lately. But I think I am going to see The Pains of Being Pure at Heart at 12:30.

thanks for the info. after seeing this, i went to the Purity Ring show today and had a great time. only half an hour, but they were great and you can't beat the price. i will say, the schedule seems to be change-able. there was a sign in the Doug Fir lobby and I saw some names crossed out. wish i had a better memory, so i could update everyone. sorry!

I'll be around for part of this, I'm doing the "digital experience" part of the festival as well, which is going on at the same time. Will probably go to Doug Fir during the less interesting talks :).
