Does a Bear Pung in the Woods? II

A few years ago, several of us packed up our tables, our tiles, and headed up to the Sherwood Campgrounds up near Mt. Hood. We played mahjong, grilled a bunch of hamburgers/hot dogs, and played some more mahjong.

It was so much fun playing outdoors, next to a flowing mountain river, and surrounded by trees.. that we're heading out there again, this year.

If you head over and look at the Photos section of our Facebook Page (hit the link on the left side of our meetup page or, just do a search for Portland Mahjong Society on FB) you'll find a photo album called "Does a Bear Pung in the Woods?" It's got lots of pictures from our first meetup there.

It is a camping site so, if you joined us there on Saturday... you might just want to pitch a tent, stay the night, and head home Sunday.

We'll get into more details about who's bringing what, etc. etc... once we get closer to July 14th. Until then, let's try to get a head count of who's interested. We did have a bunch of cars/vans going last time so, even if you don't drive, we can probably still get you out there.... and, maybe even back :)

Another wonderful outing of the Portland Mahjong Society. The setting was lovely, the people were, as always, a riotous laugh, and the cooking a joy. I look forward to the next adventure.

Thanks for organizing this again. We had lots of fun! We should play outdoors again at a Portland-area park some time.

Yes, I think we'll go "self-contained" again this time. Lia and I will meet you at the campground, as will our two friends. I expect that we'll be able to be there around noon as well. We'll also bring some food - if we have too much, we can always take it back home. This is going to be awesome! See you there! :)

Sweet. That leaves paper plates, utensils, etc. We also need ice coolers, ice, soda. Bring what you can (and/or, have already mentioned). We'll figure out what's missing, and pick it up on our way out of town.

Martin & Crew - I know last time we did this, you guys were pretty self contained (got there on your own, food, etc.). Not sure of your plans this time but, we do have plenty of hot dogs and sausages you're welcomed to. Hoping we get there around noon. We'll see you there.

Shane, we aren't spending the night. We'll get there around noon'ish and, be heading home before the sun goes down. If you need a ride, we have several vehicles going. Depending on where you're located, we should be able to get you a ride. Go ahead and send me an email with your address or, give me a call to work it out.

Before I am able to confirm whether or not I can go to this event, I just need to know how I can get a ride and back since I can't stay till the next day

Actually, it's on 35. We've always taken 84 to Hood River, get on 35 and, it's eventually on your right. Sherwood Campgrounds. Here's it's website w/ map: http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/...

Leaf, I can transport you and your things :) I am waiting for Rod to chime in with a plan...and directions...though I believe it was pretty straightforward...go past Govt Camp and it is on the left hand side of 26 heading east.

I have a mahjong table and three folding chairs. I don't have transportation....

If the weather is like this next Saturday, our outing will be a huge success!

We'll be able to bring one complete setup: a table, four chairs, and a set of tiles (no grilled chicken markers though).

We'll also bring whatever meat we want to grill and eat, plus some sides that we can share.

Is there anything else we should bring?

Also, do you have any more directions to the place, please?
