Hack With Me Day

Let's hack together on a Saturday afternoon. Bring your pet project! We'll start the afternoon off with short demos, and break into small groups, etc., whatever from there.

If you've never attended a hackathon before don't worry — this isn't a hackathon. This is just an afternoon for everyone to collaborate on whatever WordPress-related projects they'd like to work on. Bring a laptop, power brick, and working WordPress install.

Ok, I'm over my head even installing Wordpress. I feel like I should get a better handle on it before I attend so I don't waste people's time.

Thanks, that's really nice. Sorry I didn't see this in time but I'll definitely take advantage next time.

I'd love the help Monday (4/21) if you're there. Thanks!

Great meeting. Good people and insight into different was of accomplishing what I was trying to code.

Good chance to focus. Learned a bit. Shared a bit. Was a nice early spring day, so attendance seemed low.

Something came up last minute and I won't be able to make it. Bummer!

I work on WordPress sites for work, and my code master Jordan will be there!

Sorry I'll be out of town! I hope we can schedule another one soon!

John Brennan, I could probably use your expertise. Who plans these things? How can I help in the planning?

    March 21, 2014

  • LoriKCR

aaaaaand something just came up. My youngest son came down with flu. I should stay here.
Can we plan another one of these for the very near future, say, 2 months from now or sooner?

I am going to say that I am 75% sure I can make it. Barring the unforeseen, of course, I should be able to be there. Are there any costs I should know about before I come?

So sorry, but I'm not going to be able to make it on Saturday after all. Hopefully we won't wait so long before scheduling the next hack day.

I hope I can help some (very) WP beginners, and get some help or input on strategy. A client bought a template that works in most ways (and is a self-hosted site). The template is not customizable with colors, and the client wants to change all the colors.
I can handle CSS modifications, but would like to know about gotchas and best approaches. I'm assuming that I want to work in a child theme rather than using the "CSS Stylesheet Editor." Or are there pros and cons there?
What else should I be asking?

WP beginner at your service. :)

Hey John, Go with the child them. This way your client will get the benefit of upgrades from the theme company. Your child theme will protect your client and you.

Wish I could be there, but I'll be at WordCamp Atlanta. Let's make this a regular thing?

Sure! We did one last April too, but dropped the ball in the interim. I think every couple months could work.

I would really like to do a meetup of this nature every 2 months or so. Forums are nice, but face time with someone who can help me is invaluable!

I'm a WordPress neophyte, and I could use a little help understanding some concepts in WordPress. I'll try to make it. At the very least, it's good to know there are meetups I can go to and get some face time with someone who can help!

Hey Daniel, what are we going to be hacking on? Should we come with VVV or Salty-Vagrant already up and running?

    March 9, 2014

  • Mary Ann A.

I have not been to one of these "hack-a-thons." Please give me some details about what happens.

    1 · March 7, 2014

    • Daniel B.

It's not a hackathon, per se, but an opportunity for community members to work together on WordPress projects (which differs from the presentation format we normally have)

I am with Mary Ann on this one. Sounds very interesting, but what exactly are we getting ourselves into?

I am hoping to make it. It's nearing the end of the term for me.
