Portland WordPress Meetup Message Board › A Note About Monday's Meetup
As of this email, we currently have 100 people signed up to attend Erick Hitter's "The Power of WordPress’ Roles and Capabilities" talk! This is a record number of people signed up for a PDXWP event!
While this is absolutely amazing, this comes as a bit of a surprise as this talk addresses a very developer heavy topic. In an effort to make sure that this meetup is useful for those in attendance, I wanted to clarify the topic.
Erick will be discussing the WP_Roles API in WordPress. He will be addressing how to programmatically interact with the API in order to customize roles and capabilities. Furthermore, he will discuss the "map_meta_cap" feature of user roles, which is a complex process for fine grained control of user permissions. This requires knowledge of WordPress plugin and/or theme development.
To be clear, Erick will not be covering the basics of user roles and capabilities. Additionally, he will not be covering how to adjust user roles and capabilities via the WordPress admin.
If you are not a developer, this is likely not the right meetup for you. Instead, check out our next meetup, which will cover all of the exciting changes coming to WordPress 3.6.
Thanks for signing up everyone!
