Asian-Themed Potluck Event (any type of Asian cuisine is welcome!)

  • April 13, 2013 · 6:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Asian food and cooking encompass many cuisines with Chinese, Japanese, Thai, and Vietnamese being most popular, judging by the restaurants in the area. The flavors from these cuisines not only bring wonderful sensations to our taste buds, but are so varied in flavor, that there’s no end to the choices available to sample and eat!

For each person that you have RSVP'd for, please prepare a homemade Asian dish of your choice to contribute toward our dinner event, plus a beverage of your choice. Desserts or sweets are welcome as well, and can be your potluck item. Also, please post a comment describing the dish you will be contributing.

Here are a few food ideas (but don’t limit it to this list!), to get your creative juices flowing:

Sushi, Chicken Satay, Lemon Grass Chicken, Dim Sum (such as potstickers, har gao,siu mai, etc), spring rolls, salad rolls, pho, hum bao, Thai red or green curry, General Tso Chicken, Clay Pot Chicken, Tempura shrimp or vegetables, Black bean sauce with shrimp, pork or clams, Coconut Shrimp, ma po tofu, seaweed salad, bok choy, long beans, and the list goes on!

Your hosts will send the address to those who have RSVP’d, 2 days prior to the event.

We will also be providing plates, cups, napkins, eating utensils, and some beverages.

Attendance to this dinner is limited, so please be sure to commit carefully as there will be a waiting list. We do want everyone who RSVP's to attend rather than not show. So, if you cannot make it please change your RSVP immediately so someone else can attend. This event is also being cross-posted in the International Gourmet Dinner Club, also with limited attendance.

We are looking forward to seeing many of you again, and enjoying great food and your company! :)

    Hi All,
Between the 2 groups (Foodie and International Gourmet Dinner Club), we had 22 people in attendance. Wow, I was amazed by the food! We had some really good cooks in our company. I didn’t talk in length as I would have wished to with most people -- it’s kind of a hard thing for me to do while hosting at the same time. But, in the future I hope to get to know everyone much better at other events. I was glad Jimmy could co-host with me, because he did a great job welcoming our guests making them feel comfortable.<-- thanks for that, Jimmy! But, I still did have a really good time because you all were GREAT COMPANY who brought GREAT FOOD. What more could anyone ask for? :)

On another note, we were loosely talking about having a potluck in the future (date unknown) with a Spanish theme: Paella (with octopi) and Tapas. Would people be interested in this theme in the future? :)

Mmmm that Kung Pao Octupi(no leftovers) was a hit, as well as your cooking show for those lucky enough to see it! :) This event worked because of your hosting skills that I greatly appreciate!

How do we know if we are able to go to the potluck? I'm on the waiting list!

    April 12, 2013

    • Linda L.

I've added you! I had sent a private message to those on the waiting list and a few have responded that they were or were not still interested. Maye you didn't get that? Anyway, I'm guessing those on the "attending" list who've not re-confirmed with their contributions are not attending, therefore there's more room now. :) Please post your potluck contribution here, Rebecca. I'll send you PM with address info + other details.

      See you soon!

On another note, if you don't plan to attend, please remove yourself from the Attending list and put yourself on the list of people not attending
By doing this, your spot will be opened up for those on the Waiting list, rather than blocking a potential opening :)

So as I was in at Hmart in Washington and got a few Kabocha squash.. and created my own Southern Thai curry.. with Tofu.i will add asian veggies and a penang curry paste .. it does go well with Jasmine rice.. Linda is anyone making Jasmine rice? if not I guess i will have to. I found a recipe similar to my created dish on bon appetit http://www.bonappetit.com/recipes/2011/10/panang-vegetable-curry

    1 · April 8, 2013

    • Linda L.

I can ask my co-host (forgot to talk to him about that). Not sure he has Jasmine rice, though... I'll let you know.

      April 8, 2013

    • Linda L.

Cynthia, my co-host doesn't have Jasmine rice, so if you want that, can you bring it? Other than that, we will have 2 pots of regular long grain white rice for everyone.

      April 11, 2013

  • Rebecca

As a newly involved "Foodie", I welcome (after many years of not cooking Asian dishes) the challenge to bring an Asian themed dish to the potluck. It has awakened my creativity! I'm excited to go beyond my own personal borders......

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
