Meetup at Portland Center Stage for the production of "I Love to Eat"

Happy New Year Foodies!

I want to offer you a special event to join your fellow foodies for a Meetup at Portland Center Stage for the production of I Love to Eat on Sunday, January 20th at 2pm.

Save $10 with the promotional code “foodie”

About the Show:

I Love to Eat

By James Still

On the Main Stage at the Gerding Theater at the Armory

This new play celebrates the life and talent of a Portland original – James Beard. Before Julia Child, before today’s proliferation of cooking shows and networks, there was James Beard, the first TV chef. He brought fine cooking to the small screen in 1946 and helped establish an American cuisine, but as is often the case with pioneers his early efforts on screen have been lost. He went on to become America’s first “foodie,” and the award bearing his name is still the prize most coveted by chefs. Playwright James Still invites you meet the man described as “the face and belly of American gastronomy” in this play that recreates an evening in James Beard’s home. PCS will join with Portland’s nationally-recognized food community to honor our homegrown culinary star.

Bonus! Join us at noon on January 20 for a special backstage tour to explore the behind the scenes aspects of the theater, including the set, green room, dressing rooms, wigs and costume shop.

To purchase:

1. Go to and select the first January 20 date for I Love to Eat from the right-hand column.

2. In the promotional code box, enter “foodie” and press OK. The discounted price will automatically appear in the seating diagram. Tickets start at just $29 with the discount.

3. Select your seats and follow the rest of the instructions to pay.

Tickets may also be purchased through the Box Office at [masked], M-Su 12pm-5:30pm.

*Discount valid for $10 off adult tickets on January 20 at 2pm or $5 off adult tickets to any performance during the run of the production, January 8 – February 3. Subject to availability. Limit 8 tickets. No children under 6 years of age. Not valid with any other offers or on previously purchased tickets.

Please get your ticket before signing up and please indicate if you'll be joining us for a special backstage tour.

I'm very excited to host this event and lots of shout out to PCS for reaching out to foodies to pay homage to Mr. Foodie himself. See you there!

Thanks so much to Kevin for organizing this! I've loved James Beard since my teens and enjoyed the play very much. The backstage tour by Mandy was excellent too, and it was a pleasure meeting some fellow foodies. Great time!

So are we sitting together or do I need to pick a reserved seat?

I'm really sorry, but I'm a bit confused. I bought a ticket to the play only. Is there a separate ticket needed for the backstage tour?

No ticket needed but there is RSVP question to indicate that you're coming to a tour or not. If missed, please just comment on your RSVP or email me directly.
