I'm going to need some help setting up Python on my Windows laptop. It's installed and I can run commands through the Windows command prompt, but not from the built-in Python command line interface. I'm anal and I want to make sure my system is set up correctly before I start coding much. :-)

Haha, I like the way you think! :) There are several mentors who can help with that. We'll get you all fixed up.

Also I just got a Python book from the library for "absolute beginners", so I'll likely bring that and use the evening as a study session.

Welcome Kristen! I'm fairly new to Python(months not years), and I'm pretty sure there'll be other newbies too. Maybe we'll be able to exchange learning tips!
