Javascript/jQuery

There was a lot of interest in having a jQuery/Javascript overview talk. Talk about the toolkit itself, have some examples, tool and web/print resources for beginners and intermediates alike. Mike has agreed to do sheriff the conversation on this topic. The date has change to Thursday, as had the location. The Webtrends guys loved having us at the last meetup, and look forward to hosting us again! Yay us!

This was a great meetup. Informative, engaging, even a little funny at times. The presenter was very knowledgeable and fielded questions well. Thanks to all that helped put this together.

The speaker was fantastic. The subject matter was all review for me. There was definitely a wide range of knowledge levels in the audience. Perhaps future meetups could be categorized as either "Fundamentals" or "Advanced Topics"

Not sure if anyone is aware but there is an online conference that will take place next month www.jquerysummit.com that's still open to registration, if anyone os interested.

It has some outstanding speakers, including John Resig himself, Paul Irish, Aaron Gustafson or Jonathan Snook. It's a 2-day track, so people can register for them separately or as a bundle. I've attended several of these summits & was never let down. If you can't attend LIVE, they'll become available to you afterward.

It was fun meeting up more people like me that share the same passion for web, as well as seeing Dave speaking again. It was more beginner level presentation but I am sure that it was very helpful for quite a few people in the room.

That was a really good presentation. Provided just enough detail to be very useful and insightful. I've seen jquery plug-in demos on different sites and they don't do a good job of demonstrating what is possible. Dave's presentation provided good examples of jquery's capabilities.

This was a really great talk - really helpful for the level I am at. It was great that Dave could do the talk. Thank you!

Just to let you all know, Mike has let me do a presentation on jQuery/JavaScript for the meetup. I'll also be handing out a few copies of my book "JavaScript: The Missing Manual."

A couple notes: 1) anyone who wants to bring food, please feel free to do so. If someone wants to bring pizza, that would be awesome too. 2) If we have time, it might be cool to go over some design problems solvable by the group. So bring your issues! (not the emotional kind... please)

Hey Mike, not that you necessarily need to answer this, but a question that's come up for me is the difference between jquery, prototype, and mootools. I know Rails favors prototype, but...I don't know the differences/similarities between these three. Anyway, if you know this, cool. But I may look into it in the meantime, too.

I'm putting together the material/presentation for this meetup and wanted to get some input from you guys. My presentation is basically going to be an intro to jQuery that covers getting started, the basics and some resources.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
