Therapeutic Communities: Their Contribution to Cooperative Community Development

A Presentation and Discussion with Christopher Holmes Chris Holmes has a long history of engagement in therapeutic communities. He was involved for many years in a large therapeutic community in the UK that chose to invest in people directly rather than focusing on infrastructure. He has also worked as a consultant and trouble shooter for projects in multiple contexts from education and healthcare to business and social developments that were at risk of failing. He is currently carrying out research for a book on the principles of Therapeutic Community. Chris’s presentation will be followed by brief comments by Jean Martinolich and John Clark. The second hour will consist of general group discussion on how the ideas presented can be applied to community-building in New Orleans. Hey everyone! Do we have an local groups or individuals involved with or interested in natural, low impact and/or off-grid building?

Layla, there is a great deal of interest in all that you mention. You are at the right place. But all kinds of intentional community, therapeutic (which involves non-violent discourse) is all a part of sustainable living. We are all connected in these interests all at once. Join up with some of the events here and you will find your people. Stay in touch. Jean, A Growing Playce for Practice in Collaborative Community.

Great! Thanks Lynn and Jean. I will certainly stay in touch. I live in BR so will be on the lookout for events to connect with.

Looks like the 7PM time slot is available and I might show up. The events I thought were then are the following day. For Tish B Av (a Jewish day of mourning), there are some prayers in the morning and later, a showing of Shindler's List. I didn't want to miss that. The Monday night prayers are repeated on Tuesday, so looks like it will work. I really wanted to hear this guy.

I'm not sure I can come because I've been invited to four different events. Have to check the time on them. I'll come if I can, and if I can, would like to videotape it for you if there's no objection. I'll make the video available for your website if you want. Thanks.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
