We have a introduction to permaculture meetup scheduled for THIS SUNDAY, March 14th at 2 PM at Fair Grinds Coffeehouse in Mid-City (3133 Ponce de Leon). If you need a ride, please contact one of your fellow members who lives in your area, so you can carpool.
There is a new and more detailed description online. Please check it out and RSVP for it. There is one aspect that is not listed on the website, and that is PRICE. There is a charge for this meetup.
THE PRICE TO ATTEND IS... one bag of mulch.
It's that simple. Just bring one full bag of fallen leaves, grass clippings, or composted materials to the meeting. The community garden project being launched on the 21st requires CRAPLOADS OF MULCH. The plot of land that we have picked has a layer of sand (8 inches deep in some areas) that has to be removed. Even when we do that, there will be a lot of sand left. Since we are planning to plant directly into the ground, we have to incorporate a lot of organic materials into the soil, and that requires mulch.
PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR MULCH DOES NOT CONTAIN MEAT OR DAIRY PRODUCTS, ANIMAL WASTE, TREATED WOOD, CHEMICALS, ETC. THE EASIEST THING TO DO IS JUST RAKE LEAVES OUT OF YOUR YARD AND FILL UP A TRASH BAG. All plastic trash bags will be re-used, so no worries.
I'll see you guys on Sunday!
