IF YOU CAN'T ATTEND, IT'S UNDERSTANDABLE...I'M KICKING MYSELF BECAUSE I THOUGHT I POSTED THIS ROUGHLY 2 WEEKS AGO:
Excerpt from Lamplight Circle:
This is the day that so many of us in Lamplight Circle thought might never come. It is one thing to dream about the future... it something entirely different to make that future happen.
After months of planning, dreaming, raising funds, making phone calls, meeting with peers, reading gardening books, and digging into soil in our own back yards, we're finally ready to plunge our hands into Mother Earth and bring life back to her soil. On Sunday, March 21st, we will begin our first phase of the Music St. Community Garden. There will be songs, laughter, sweat, and sweets, and we want EVERYONE to be a part of it.
We resolved in early 2009 to create a garden that would liven up spirits and feed souls. We wanted to teach people how we all depend on the Earth and how to take care of it and cultivate it. Hence, a community garden idea was born. Phase 1 of the garden will involve landscaping the area and building the raised bed plots for each household to grow in. Phase 2 will involve the planting of our seeds, plants, shrubs, and trees. Phase three will involve more permanent and decorative erections.
The day will kick off with a Spring Equinox ritual of blessing on the land, hosted by a Lamplight member. Then we'll begin landscaping with help from Lamplighters, Beacon of Hope, Bubba Gump's Shrimpossibles, Gentilly residents, The New Orleans Area Permaculture Meetup Group, and other Pagans from our community. During the dig, we'll have NOLA Rhythm Drum Circle providing entertaining and whimsical rhythms to help us celebrate the Equinox and the return of plant life. Drinks and snacks will be provided for all attendees. This phase of landscaping is intended to organize both of the blighted lots into sectioned plots for our Gentilly neighbors.
The ritual will begin at 11:30 AM at 6310 Music Street, New Orleans, LA. The ground-breaking will be at noon, and the day will end when the sun sets! Please RSVP now.
Plan to get dirty... that's why they call it dirt. Wear crappy clothes and tennis shoes or boots. A personal water bottle is helpful as well.
There will be a reporter and photographer from the Times-Picayune there. If you don't want to be photographed, just let the photographer know.
