If anyone has a few minutes & a dollar to spare, please consider contributing to this Kickstarter campaign for my friends Kristen & Edward who used to live in Kensington (ran Leotah's Place Coffeehouse) but recently moved to Georgia. Here's the fundraising e-mail she sent me the other day (definitely worthwhile):
Hey wonderful friends!
I wanted to tell you about our exciting l
ittle business we've started in Athens, GA :) It's called Let Us Compost. We opened in April, spent lots of months getting support from the city and a compost delivery site, and we have been picking up food waste from homes and businesses for the past 2 months. We have diverted 1500 lbs of food waste from the landfill so far and turned it into soil! In Menlo Park, CA, where I grew up, a separate food waste bucket is now required, and so easy because Recology picks it up! Everyone does it- the most conservative, old school people and hippies, everyone! But...Georgia isn't even close. I'm hoping Let Us Compost will help us get there. We have 35 customers and there's demand for lots more but we need capital to buy a truck, rollcarts and buckets! We just launched this Kickstarter campaign and we have 20 days to raise $12,500 (all-or-nothing funding scary! but COOL). It sounds like a lot, but when you think about $40 a rollcart, $7 a bucket and A TON for a truck, it's just about right. The slightest amount will make a huge impact for us. Even $5 = a new customer! That's all they need to get started. If you guys are in a position to give, that would be really cool. If not, I love you just as much and maybe more by not being pressured into social campaigns? But if you could send it along to someone who wants to see waste DRAMATICALLY reduced in Georgia by Let Us Compost and get some fun Kickstarter rewards, send away!http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1724581765/let-us-compost-rollcarts-and-truck-for-curbside-co?ref=live
