RE: [penn-permaculture] Bees

I am just starting beekeeping this year.  I took a course at Longwood Gardens and then signed-up for a 5 session hands-on beekeeping workshop.   Both are provided by Jim Bobb who is a professional beekeeper in the Lansdale area for about 16 years or so [I'm guessing but I think that's the timeframe I heard].

I placed an order for my bees with him.  He goes to Georgia and works with a company down there for a week or two to package bees and then he brings them back to Lansdale for pickup.  As he runs a professional business and has been doing this for so long, I would think the Georgia bees are just as hardy here as NY bees.  But again, I'm a novice.

His website is:  http://www.pabeekeeper.com/

You can find order form for bees on the site if you're interested but seems you already have an order.

Hope this helps.

Greetings.....we live in south Jersey and are buying a hive (new of course). As far as bees, we have a connection in PA who gets them from Georgia, but does anyone have suggestions/connections closer? I mean, I was reading that NY bees were hardier for this area..... Also, we didn't finalize our purchase of the new hive, so if there are any recommended vendors that would be great. Thanks friends.
